Got to say at this point, whoever installed the deck and jockeys etc should have their tools taken away!

out of curiosity, as i have never done much work to ribs. But is it economical to do what you are doing?
Would it be cheaper to buy a new bare hull and tubes, rather than a second hand boat that someone thinks has a value as a boat, when you have to re do the transom, deck, all deck fittings and electrics etc.
is the saving on the hull and old tubes worth the money you pay for the value of the stuff you bin and the work you have to do to get the hull and tubes back up to fit for purpose?
I ask in curiosity as I must be wrong or people wouldnt do it. But I wonder how much you spent on buying this vs buying a bare hull and tubes.
I watch these threads with great admiration, not only to the skills involved, but the time and effort people spend.
Whereas i see people rebuilding classic cars such as etypes etc, they can no longer buy the chassis and body they desire, so they are bringin something to life that can't be bought. However with ribs, often people rebuild a boat that can still be bought. Obviously I caveat with the fact that some cant, for example the old deltas etc
Good luck!!

It's a valid point Paul.
Despite not knowing the cost of a bare cobra hull and tubes I would doubt very much that the costs of my repairs are going to come anywhere near it, a new complete boat is over £40k I believe. So to buy a bare hull and tubes from APV is probably not going to leave much change from £15k- £20k I reckon.
The reason for my refurb is due to a bodged deck installation performed in 2003 causing damage to the hull and structure beneath. I bought the boat knowing it needed some work (cosmetic and wiring etc) but not to this extent and yes: Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Those that know me personally know the full story but it is not something I will be putting into print as the end result was amicable. Had I known I would be doing this to it so soon I probably wouldn't have bought it, could I afford a new one? No.
That said I have quite a few contacts in the boat building world and I am a mechanical electrical engineer by trade so to be honest the project is now quite exciting. If it hadn't been for personal reasons I would have started alot sooner.
I am sure the project will over-run and cost a bit more than I have have budgeted. However, it will be my boat, built to my spec which I will know every inch of.
The end result will be worth the work, time and money involved, and cost less than a new hull and tubes (which may or may not be built as well as mine will) of that I have no doubt.

Ah, fair enough, no point hanging your dirty linen out in public.
Best of luck with refurb, sure it will be awesome when done. I quite like the look of them.
