Mike that's not fair..
You can't go around promising pictures in the RIB forum, and them don't deliver.
I'm so disapointed.

Yeah, sorry 'bout that. I know it's not that difficult but I was making a meal out of reducing the size and res of the pics sufficiently to upload them onto the site. That's now sorted, so here's few for starters....
Oh Gawd! The system is still telling me the files are too big to post. Back to the drawing board....

OK, OK, I'm finally there. I think. But please don't even think of asking what I was doing wrong.
Here's the next bit.
Then we pulled out the rest of the bits bolted to the inside of the transome...

....and then out came the wiring loom. Not, I have to add, without some serious swearing. Would you believe the eejuts that built this boat put all the wires in, clipped them all together with cable ties and THEN boxed them in behind permenant ducting.

After that little lot out came the cutter and I removed the steel plates from the bearers before preparing them for lengthening. The new engine mounts are 14cms further forward than the old ones. It's going to be a tight fit in that engine box....

There'll be more when the new engine arrives.
Apparently those stars at E P Barrus loaded the engine on Friday for delivery on Monday. It hadn't turned up by Wednesday and so on Thursday the witch-hunt began in earnest.
Would you believe it, somebody eventually tracked it down - on the floor in the Barrus warehouse.
They tell us another truck is on its' way.
Believe it when I see it.

Old engine
Just out of interest. What happened to the old Yamaha. Did you sell her or part exchange it for the new one. The 300 Yanmar is a fantastic engine. We habe been using the 300 for 5 years now and not a single problem with it.

Mike
Are you fitting the engine brace when you install the Yanmar and have you considered/purchased the shower unit for the leg ?
Regards
Mark

Yanmar 300's are great.........
its just the Bravo 3x legs that you need to worry about!
3 in 250hrs @ £5k a pop? No thanks.
Mike G, wise man that he is, is going for Bravo 2 I believe?
Would that need the shower? Engine mount reinforcement as fitted to Scorpions is probably a good idea Mike! (Cyanide has one.)

Julian, I believe I have sold the Yamaha to The Wavehumper. Hopefully, we will have a plan to hand it over quite soon.
Mark and Alan, this brace thing is causing me to scratch my head at the moment. What exactly is it and where does it fit?
The new engine does come with a cast iron cross brace that passes below the crank case and in front of the sump and is bolted onto the lugs that, in turn, bolt down onto the forward engine mounts. Is that the cross brace that I have heard people talk about?
Or is it a cross brace that actually attaches to the engine bearers that hold the engine mounts to stiffen the hull?
Yes, I am, on Barrus's recommendation (no surprise) going for the Bravo 2 leg. There's been no suggestion that this needs the shower head as, with no contra rotating shafts, one inside the other, there is less heat generated. But I will ask Barrus and if they suggest anything other than it doesn't need it, I'll update this post.
We're going to lift the new engine in for fit tomorrow after the transom mods are complete. Then it will be preparing the skin fittings for cooling water.... and so on and so forth....
Cheers for now.

Bravo 3 Legs
Alan
I have so far blown 1 Bravo 3 leg and that was after 102 hours. We have now done over 400 hours and had no further problems. I had the gear box bearings etc strengthened and a shower cap will be going on next week. So hope fully the leg will last. The problems were due to the oil becoming so hot that it melted the bearings which caused the leg to give.

Mike
The engine brace fits to the engine mounts and, in my case, is made of stainless steel ( I think ! ).
The best man to talk to would be Dave Crawford in Lymington as he has had many made for Scorpions and is not one to mince his words whether someting is worth it or not.
Dave Crawford Marine is on 01590 671251.
With regards to the shower I fitted one because of all the issues around Bravo III's. I's sure I've seen them on US web sites for $150 which for piece of mind was cheap. But then again I've not heard of Bravo II's have the same problem.
Regards
Mark
