Dolphins in Cardigan Bay 08

Fantastic display by Dolphins. First near Pwhelli & later near Abersoch, on Saturday 10th May 08.

Great pics and like a mill pond.

It was in Cardigan bay they spotted over 2,000 dolphins a couple of years ago.

Dolphins are the best creatures you can encounter in a RIB - whales are beautiful but dolphins (at least the ones here) are usually up for some fun!

The only problem is that unless you are prepared, you need to do below 10kt or above 20kt - anywhere in between and you get very, very wet when they start riding the bow wave!

we did get them to ride the bow wave for brief parts, it was amazing, i didn't like it when i got to close though, as for there safety, but thats just me.lol ino they are quick enough really

When we see dolphins, we generally slow down to 'dolphin speed' - around 8 kts, and run parallel with them (i.e. don't approach). About 50% of the time they come and play in either the bow wave or the wake. Any faster than that and they seem reluctant to approach the boat - which is fair enough!!

There are not many boats here so they go mad and come on the gallop as soon as they hear an outboard, you can't not approach them as they are everywhere
