Hi Charles

It's inside of the Copenhagen Harboer.

Between the center of Copenhagen and a small island called "Amager" runs a very narrow stripe of water. In the old days it was used for cargo ships to deliver cargo into Copenhagen, but the water is to shallow for the new and bigger ships, so all the Cargo areas, have been moved north off the City.

The water is now so clean that people are starting to swim in the harboer, and they are building new hotels and buisness, down by the water front.

There is nearly no current in this part of the harboer, and since the big ships don't use this part anymore, the water is almost always flat and calm.

Just has to look out for the water police, since there is a speed limit of 6 knots inside the harbour. (To keep the waves down, dosn't matter that the waves are bigger at 6 knots than at 19 knots) Police logic

Hi Rene, the boat looks in great shape you have kept it well, and a mass of electronics. Who made the extra bit to the console and what have you got there?

Pete

Hi Pete

Thanks

The boat was in great shape when I bought it from you, so it's not been a hard job keeping it that way. I just have to keep up the good work I don't have to fix everything.

The extra piece of console, was made by me and a friend of mine.
It's made of stainless steel, quite thin to keep the weight down, but still thick enough to be stable.

Starting from the bottom, I have a Color Sonar from furone to find wrecks. It's so greate, you can see what the bottom is made os before you "land" on it
Over that I have a Furoneo Radar, it's not a greate one, but it works very well. It can't see more than about 10 miles with it, because of the height of the boat.
On top of that I have a Sailor VHF.
I tried to have the VHF inside the console, and then connected to the external speaker that you put on the console. It works fine, but it's a hassle to use when sailing.

Behind to Lowrance GPS. I have put my new Garmin GPSMap 176. I was planning of taking the Lowrance off the boat. But the Garmin is guite hard to read going at 30 knots on a choppy sea

There the Lowrance is better. But the Lowrance is strange. I can't figure out the datum of this GPS, and there is nothing on it in the manual. Besides the Garmin is Diferential, so it's more precise anyway.
I use the Lowrance for speed a TTD (Time to Destination), and the Garmin when we are close to the wreck.

Othervise everything is like when I bought it.

I have however noticed latly that there are a bit of water inside the hull. I have tried to lift the front of the boat with a jack (Is this the right name ???), but I'm not sure that all the water is getting out.

Any sugestions ???

Regards
Rene

Rene,
I was interested to read that you find - "the Lowrance is strange. I can't figure out the datum of this GPS" - do you mean that the chart view doesn't match your actual position?
The reason that I ask is that a charter RIB which I have used (and intend to use again) has a similar problem with it's Lowrance Globalmap. Although the lat and long is accurate (confirmed with another GPS) the chart is about 100m off in both axes.
I've seen this unit used on other RIBs, but I didn't remember to ask them if thay had a similar problem.
Richard.

Hi Pepper.

Well no that's not exatly my problem, since mine don't have a Map on it. I only have the LAT and LON on the Lowrance. That's also the primary reason I bought the Garmin, since this one have a MAP on it.

No the "problem" on the Lowrance is that I think it might be on EDO50 system, but I'm not sure. There is a posibility to enter an offset to the position on it, but I haven't found the right offset yet.

I don't know why your GPS shows the MAP wrong, when it have the right LAT and LON. There might be something wrong with the map inside the GPS, but I'm not in any position to confirm this.

Regards
Rene

Rene, I saw the hull being built so have a good idea of whats under the deck. At the very bottom on the inside is semi circle tube of grp which runs the length of the hull and helps to form a spine with the hull. You can see part of it when you look inside the front deck hatch (just in front of the console) Suggest you cut a small hole in it and have a look inside. If I remeber correctly there is no drain bung at the back of the hull. You might want to fit one. Aim at least 2 cm above the bottom of the hull as Osprey do lay up the transom quite well there. Alternatively fit another metal deck hatch at the stern. You do need to get the water out or nasty things might happen over time, not least if it freezes during the winter.

Seem to remeber they built the hull for twin engines orginally despite me ordering a single installation. Therefore avoid the area 15 cm in from the transom on the deck as there might be a hidden cupper to drain water for a wtin instalation. Thankfully I managed to stop them before they cut the drain hole in the centre and persuaded them to put it in the right place.

By the way I still regret selling the boat, Pete

Hi Pete,

I have seen the circle type of grp in the hull.

But there is a drain plug at the end of the boat. I did unscrew that one, and most (at least I hope that) of the water came out.

I had the front of the boat tiltet as far up as I could but I think that there still might be water in there.

Sometimes when I bring the boat on to the trailer. There is a very low noice like when your a emtying a bottle of water (kluk, kluk, kluk) from the hull.

The hull is built very strong, and I think that there might be some kind of support for the hull in the same directions as the transom (from port to starbord. --Or the other way whatever) with a spacing about 30 - 60 cm. from the stern to the bow.

I can se about 2 or 3 of them true the front hatch. If there is a draining hole in them, and one of them is filled up with something, so the water can't come out. ??

But making another "inspection" hole in the back of the boat, might be ok. You can keep almost anything in those hole's ( a lot of rope anyway)

And Pete,
By the way, I don't regret you sold the boat.

Regards
Rene

Lowrance Globalmap

Pepper,
I was interested to read your comments regarding the Globalmap GPS. Although this is my first season as a ribster, an so don't have huge experience of other chart-plotters, I bought a Globalmap 3000MT on the basis of the large screen, Navionics charts and great price at the Boat Show in January.
I've been delighted with it and gobsmacked by the accuracy! It sounds as if there's a problem with the charter boat's chart or set-up.
See you around.

Kind regards,
Dave.

Anyway, TVM for that, I'll see if I can have a tinker next time I'm out on that RIB.

Cheers,
Richard.
