I spend a few weeks a year around the waters between Gib and Estepona and it is a great place for small boats. Have seen big turtles, dolphins and this year a sun fish.
I've not had problems with police in Gib, but then the rib is 5.5m with 90hp and I read somewhere that this would fall below the limit the police are most interested in. Even then I keep a reasonable distance off.
In Spain on the other hand we had a serious welcoming committee of Guardia Civil and Policia Local back in May. We'd been out on a pretty rough day and none of the smaller boats where out ( Different view of boating in Spain and it doesn't seem to involve getting wet!). Some bored cop must have got on the radio as he saw us coming in at a fair pace and before we knew it there must have been 15-20 at the Estepona marina by the time we got we got back!Very glad I had a waterproof document wallet with every last bit of necessary paperwork. In the end after they had checked everything and realised my sons as the "crew" of 3, 12- 14 year old boys was hardly a drugs gang, they went off rather sheepishly and didn't even board the boat- which was tied up at the marina berth by this time.
No harm done in the end, but not something I want to see repeated.
