Let's see if we can help this cause

Would this be a cause worthy of support from RibNetters?

I am sure lots of us go past the forts regularly and could easily take orders and drop off supplies if it would help him???

Any comments??

Tony.

Wouldn't want your boat impounded as an accessory whilst delivering a BigMac!

I was thinking the same - it would be great to keep him company - stay there free for a few weeks - it would be a lot easier to repel boarders with a few extra shipmates!!!

You'd have to be pretty offensive to have that happen. Feeding a squatter isn't an offence.

Pete7 - Yes the forts' water supply was contaminated with Legionella (the causative agent of Legionnaires' Disease). The bacteria is surprisingly common in industrial/hotel etc water supplies and can be managed/controlled (and a decent contractor should be able to completely eliminate the problem and put in place a control program that will reduce the chance of recurrance) so contrary to some of the press implications it doesn't mean the hotel/facilities can never be reopened.

The article in the mirror implied that it was the current occupier that got ill, but the BBC news articles from the time (2004) say it was a member of the 'public' who stayed in the hotel.

So I get to lose some weight as well. Less weight, same power equals more speed.

Yet another reason to help out!

Or die - legionnaires' disease has about a 1:7 mortality rate.

Its named after the first outbreak in 1976 at a convention of American Legionnaires.

However in some odd way Cod is right - ex service men are more likely to get the disease as being male and over 50 are risk factors.

The story I was told whilst actually working on Horse Sands Fort was that when the Army or however where called in to clear No Man's Land Fort they threw lead acid battery cells and other stuff down the well. As a result a very expensive water purification system had to be installed as these batteries couldn't be extracted. I'm guessing here, but I would expect that the Legionnaires disease has come about due to a lack of proper maintenance.
