Head of the River Race on the Thames

We were out over the weekend on the Thames and despite a dull few days we had a good couple of days out.

300+ rowers from Mortlake to Putney and no major accidents so a real result.

Attached below are some pictures.

That looks a great day out, really fancing dragging my rib to London to have a Thames cruise one day.
I did row that course years ago, it was the Devizes-Westminster canoe race which finished under Westminster bridge, don't know if they still run it?

Yes they still run the Devies to Westminster each year. The very hardcore teams do it overnight without stopping now!

If you'd like to come up to London I'm organising the Great River Race from Teddington all the way down to Poplar on the 13th of September. I need 40 ish RIBs so all offers greatfully received!

Drop me an email or PM if interested.

I may try and organise another Ribnet Thames Cruise between now and then as well.

Chris

Hi Chris
They were doing that when I did it in back in 19... er.. well, when I did it.

125 miles canoeing and about 70 or so 'portages' (running with canoe and kit) one of which was about 3/4 mile long, we came up against a lot of the 'who dares wins' brigade and by the time we capsized half a dozen times, broken our steering and got wedged across the canal in Reading we'd adopted the 'who cares who wins approach'

Thanks for the info re the Thames cruise, probably a couple of weeks early for me but I will definately bear it in mind.
