Cracking little boat, Robin and, significantly, you appear to be the first member of Ribnet to have bought an Evinrude ETec. I'd be very interested to hear your first impressions of the engine once you're water borne - I've been considering getting exactly the same motor for my Searider. As a matter of interest what influenced your decision to go for the 'Rude? Hope you enjoy the new rig

Cheers...i am an ad' man's dream i suppose 2 stroke performance with 4 stroke economy, 3 year non declining guarantee (which i hope i wont need) no servicing required for 3 years. No run in period required ( i kid you not). Seems to fit the bill. Thought i'd give it a go.
will keep posted re reliability and frugality etc

Thanks re the boat too. she's a beaut.

Surprisingly enough our boats share the same designer which is probably why she appeals!

Robin,
On the 4.8 I use a short shaft 6hp 4 stroke which is mounted directly to the transom. I have a space advantage on my transom as there is no 'A' frame.

Peter (Ribald) had a 4.8 with an 'A' frame, which I believe did not allow for direct mounting of an aux outboard.

On the 5.8 we had an outboard bracket which proved to be unreliable, so we now mount a 5HP (long shaft) 4 stroke directly to the transom. We find it much quicker and easier to use the engine this way, and more importantly it has proved to be a robust mounting method.

Thanks for that Jason. Hmmm re think required perhaps. May need a sticky out kind of bracket or super deluxe membership of Seastart.
Cheers

Saw the boat as Robin was picking it up, a real tidy package. Hope you get out on the water this weekend (20/03/04).

Not my birthday until Jan 2005, i like the thinking behind your present to yourself, sod the kids start buying myself toys.

Was nice to meet you Steed, (judging by that nice rib of yours steed you have been out birthday pressie shopping already)
and thanks Ian and Manos we will see how well she goes tomorrow.
I think I will head towards Haslar slip tomorrow.
Not used it before, anyone know how much they charge and whether the parking (car and trailer) is any good or not and is the slipway access all states of tide?

Hi robin,

Haslar is free, plenty of parking there also.

its a compacted slip which is useable 3 or 4 hours either side of high tide and well sheltered.

pete7 knows more about it than me as he introduced it to me

boat launch have a good write up on it.

there is a number of other slips on the sea front but in a SWerly are dodgy. At least for me !!!!

Al in my less than humble opion
