Just bought this.......

F50. Fantastic fun. Here's a question - I want to use it for launch and recovery only. No on road use (no tax/mot) who would you call for this sort of insurance cover ? Thanks,

Oooh, used to have one of those myself a few years ago - F20 1.6 petrol version. Used it for RTV offroad trailing. Great fun.

If you are not using it onroad then why would you need insurance? Or do you need liability insurance for launching on the beach? Probably worth talking to a specialist 4x4 broker.

Oh Christ, they've got a forum and gallery on it, too. Still, at least that'll keep him off Ribnet for a while

Alan - Ribald thanks..........

for that info. Yes I need 3rd partly liability only to appease the site I have my chalet on.

Rib' I've already found that site and joined in the forum - thanks.

Any suggestions on a good broker are still sought. I have tried a couple but am getting stupid quotes (200 - 300) when the thing is only worth about that !

I don't suppose that any of the mainstream motor brokers would even touch that sort of cover. I don't know for sure, but you could try someone like Competition Car Insurance who are well used to insuring weird and wonderful motorised things.

MeMe, I think you may be on dodgy ground. Your vehicle will need to be mot'd etc. if it is used where there is public access, even if the land is private, eg. a campsite, a slipway, a beach etc. Also, you might find it a condition of an insurance policy that the vehicle is roadworthy and has a valid mot certificate.

That's a good point.......

and one which I've highlighted to the brokers I've spoken with already. A couple have said they won't touch me however, speaking to a couple out of a 4x4 specialist magazine I've already received a quote for 165.00 which I'll possibly go with.

I havew alos spoken to the site where I have my chalet who are pretty hot on such matters due to the fact that there are 100's of tractors on site which are of course not road worthy themselves. Infact it''s a farce really as some of these tractors have no brakes, little in the way of steerage and belch out foul toxins (mmm, it sounds like a dreadful place - it's not that bad really) Anyway, they advise that all I need is 3rd party liability insurance. I'm sure it's all a load of bull but it appeases them and makes me a little more comfortable.

Thanks for all the advice so far.

By the way - like an idiot I ran out of diesel and am wondering, do I need to bleed the engine or just fuill it up and turn the key. It's an 1980 2.5ltr. Any advice ?

Cor Blimey, I leave my boat down in pathelli for 2 days and some geezer makes off with it behind a red dinky toy. Graeme, how about repainting blue and white to match the cushions.

MeMe, this is going to sound bizarre, but try the NFU (National Farmers Union).
They do some really competitive rates on just about everything!!!

I went to them for my outdoor activity end of my training company.

You could always class it as an agricultural vehicle if it never leaves site.

Hopew this helps.

Dave
