the launch of baltic quest in ice ;-)

Most boats are out of the water this time of year ... we had to break the ice using the crane to launch.

Launch of Baltic Quest

Nice video thanks for posting. What kind of performance do you expect from the boat?

hi we got a top speed of 41 knots with 4 people and 540 litres of fuel.
however the load on the engines was only 90% so even if we add more weight ( ie people) we will not loose speed. we have spare revs and power.
the boat is rigged for general perfomance not top speed.

i posted this video earlier but not enough ice for this thread but there is some so here it is.

Ian

When you told me last year you were doing this I was impressed.
Now I'm just jealous of your adventure.

Seriously, I think congratulations are in order, and I can't believe you dragged, literally, the Rib.net burgee all the way there.

Nasher.

Very cool!

Thanks for posting the picture. Did you get a photo of the RIBnet burgee at the North Pole too? If not, could you quickly nip back and sort one out?

Thanks very much all

Won't hijack the thread too much but;

Jean, I've raised ~£32,500 this time - am incredibly touched by people's generosity, especially in these times. And yes will bring some piccies to the dinner, looking forward to seeing you again.

John, unfortunately I wasn't switched on enough to take a RIB.net burgee to the north, as I'd only just started looking around for a rib then. But would definitely be willing to pop back and get that photo - just for you

Stoo, that definitely would have been a 'first'!!! Funnily enough, we did take a little 5' inflatable to the north, which we used to cross the larger open leads - with one person and a pulk perched on the top, it was quite entertaining

Nasher, thanks very much - I do feel very privileged to have had the chance of this adventure. And the burgee was sooo heavy - I have some design modifications to put to John involving match sticks and tissue paper.

Ian

Phenominal - have never experienced that degree of cold - must be something to see but perhaps not for too long

Spring is coming

Yes the cold can take your breath away at times, but I always remember that Spring is coming.
