Lewis to Gairloch

Made the most of the good weather and took a trip to the mainland, without using calmac!

Looks like a great run, I am envious the farthest Ive gone from my home billet over to your side is the Shiants, and you sure need a weather window for it !! . I hadnt realised how much tide goes up the minch on that run, I found I really needed to aim 6 miles or so south of where I wanted to go, just to run straight !!!

where are you based. If you come from the south tides are quite strong around the sound of harris.

Is Gairloch really that bad a place to go ?

I spent four years avoiding going to the ranges at gairloch because everyone that came back said it was awful. Managed to totally avoid the place. Was that a mistake ?

Maybe I should have just wandered off and looked at the sea !

Think you've got a different one there Biggles.. do you mean Gare Loch ? the one that contains Faslane naval base? .. there are several ranges next to it ?...the one Iain is referring to is in Wester Ross .. where the scenery is spectacular, especially in and around loch Maree

Yeah great place for a rib to explore and has a nice wee pontoon as well. I am going back as soon as I get a calm day
