Motorboat project (before tenders had tubes!)

Not a RIB I'm afraid but thought this might be of interest to some. This is a former tender to the second RMS Mauritania. She's about 32ft long, very solidly built! Big old Thornycroft engine. She was last used running pleasure trips out of Newtown creek on the Isle of Wight some years ago, which is where we picked her up from.

The plan is to restore her with a few additions such as a loo and small gallery, and then eventually use her in a commercial capacity for events in the Solent and on the Thames. Shes still in the water at the moment while the engine is given some TLC then she'll be coming out for the real work to begin!

You'll need a wee peaked skipper's cap.

She was lifted out yesterday after I spent a while getting the engine running (which in actual fact started first turn of the key after the starter motor was rebuilt). Just been sent these pics which reveal she is keel cooled, not something I've ever come across before but I understand is common place on commercial vessels.

Nice looking boat.

Looking forward to seeing her cleaned up.

jky

ps: Willk; I think your dock piling is on fire... Judging by the one further right and back, in front of the dark building, anyway.
