Mylor to Plymouth - In search of the BIBOA Ribs
I set out from Mylor at 10am on the 16/07/05 on what was going to be a very long day.
rounded st anthoinys head and then laid in a course almost due East for 30 nmiles. Why because I had never seen the Eddystone Rocks before so i thought id take a look.
Got there in a little over 1.5 hours chucked the anchor in and watched the divers while we had a rest.
Then we set off for Plymouth in search of the crowd of BIBOA ribs that were supposed to be here on mass (we never found them)
Jumped the wake of some kind of small naval ship on the way in (oh my god - nearly shit my self when I got close - I had to back right off - still had the prop a fair way off the water)
Chased a brittany ferry in towards Plymouth - (i didnt realise how fast those things went) and then had a trip up the river to see the tamar bridge. Still no sign of a mob of Ribs.
Watched the power boat racing and got told off by the police for venturing inside the blue bouys (what blue bouys - i think they could have been biggedr and more plentifull) - sorry about the pictures we were kept sooooooo far away.
Left for Fowey, but the sea breze had whipped up a 3 or 4 foot chop which whilst probably doesnt pose any difficulty to larger ribs - to my 4.2m humber it was beating us to death. we struggled on and finally made Fowey so decided to kill a couple of hours here having dinner and waiting for the sea breeze and chop to die down. Still couldnt find the BIBOA Ribs.
Left Fowey about 8pm and had a fairly pleasent trip back to Mylor - greeted once we had rounded st anthonys head by a beutifull sunset which was the perfect end for my longest venture in my very short boat.

Great pictures Roy shame we couldn’t make it, went out of Hayle in the end thinking of making a trip up the Coat to foreign waters of Newquay before the summers over may be we can meet up.

I guess we only just missed each other, judging by my foto.
I was on the large and rather ugly yellow coastguard cabin rib.

Hi Alex,
Was that we tied up next to in Sutton Lock on the way out in the morning? We were on a yellow osprey?
What a great weekend. Any idea if there is going to be any coverage of the race on sky or terrestial TV?
Nipped to Salcombe afterwards and saw this nice looking boat. Also saw a 12 ft basking shark which was amazing!!

Ozz,
Yep that was me. Glad you had a good day.
Our gearbox broke on the port engine, so I missed the racing in the afternoon

We were there, Roy.
Not as brave as you though - we launched at Saltash.
We circled the course. Then we anchored up for lunch near the first turn.
We were also near that big red boat you took a pic of but it got a bit chaotic so we nipped round to Whitsand Bay.
Bob & Sue (we spoke to you last weekend on Myler slipway)

Roy,
I see you are selling the Humber. Have you got a replacement in mind yet?

I have a replacement in mind - its just getting out of my mind and into reallity that is going to be the problem.
Im looking at the Ribcraft 5.85 with an Evinrude 90 E-Tec.
They can build this boat wih a 40 gallon under deck fuel tank which will give me the kind of range i want. I also like the fuel economy and 3 years untill first service the e-tec engines give.
Im just waiting to see if one comes up second hand but ive not seen any available with the E-tec or the 40 gallon fuel tank...
If i have to buy new i dont think the wife is going to appreciate the dent it will make in our finances
