Have you got wear patches on the tubes.
As we have white tubes i wished i had had them fitted from new
Just as a matter of interest do you know how low your engine is set i/e where the cav plate is, as i have a speed issue with ours.
Good looking boat you will have fun.

I trailered my last Scorpion 8.5 which was pretty interesting around Jersey ...

This time I've opted for a Versadock, so I won't need to take it out of the water.

It's a 21" pitch four blade Mercury prop. Not sure what height it's set at, but this time feel the boat is so well set-up I won't be changing anything.

Quick note about OUTSTANDING after-sales service from Scorpion. Had some interference on VHF from SeaStar steering pump. Scorpion sent a replacement ICOM VHF which arrived next day, and have been absolutely committed to sorting ASAP. Fantastic company - special thanks to Joy Rickman who is priceless.

Hi Freetrader

Just wondering how the versa dock is working out? I looked long and hard at that product and although I eventualy went with a Dry Stack I would be interested to hear of your experiances with it.

Versadock

Nick Wood from Compass, me and another mate, built half of it last night. If it's not floated off in the harbour, we should have it ready by the weekend. Fingers-crossed it will do the job! We'll post some pictures on rib.net soon.

8.5

Nope it's not stepped. Not too sure about the stepped hull, bit concerned about lack of lateral stability and chine-walk. That said I've not driven one, so couldn't comment.

Freetrader.

What do you have to say about your engine and Scorpion after a couple of mounth in your hand?

What do you say about a suzi 300 on a 8,5m with a stepped hull?
I had planes for a revenger 29 but i remember my visit to scorpion -98 and after that i have problem to see another brand (new). I saw you asked about sparks on the e-tec some time agoe. How much oil did it drink? 1,5% average...?

Scorpion have a 8,75(demo) with twin optimax 225 at 75 000Ģ... Do you know if itīs the same hull but longer in a 8,75? Im interrested on the 8,1 or a 8,5...

Hi Roy

Would really recommend the versadoc, not much more than a trailer and zero hassle. Mine is floating in a drying harbour - it would be even easier in a marina.

Harbour authorities will take a bit of persuading, because they've not seen it before, but if you show them pictures etc, you should be ok.

Have you seen the site?

Hi Joakim (?)

Very pleased with power to weight ratio on new boat. The only thing I'd trade up to would be a 10m+ scorpion with twin engines.

The E-tec is a lovely engine. It's sipping the oil, it's quiet, got loads of torque. Very impressive.

My feeling on these heavier 4 strokes is that you're not getting a huge more pull.

The 8.75 would be a great buy, but I'd be worried about the costs of running twin Optis, and I'm not a great fan of Optis after my last blew up on me.

Suzi 300 is a great engine though, and I'd certainly consider it next time round.

Interesting that you get 52 knots...
I have 8.1 Scorpion with a 250HP ETec and the same 4 blade 21" pitch Mercury revolution propeller and I have only managed to reach 49.5 knots thus far on flat water and a single person.
Was your fuel tank almost empty when you reached 52 knots?
Anybody knows how a heavier boat with the same engine/prop combination would be almost 3 knots(!) faster?

May of had a bit of tide behind him? Clean hull/ no weed, trim, amount of fuel on board, sea conditions etc all add up.

My boat reaches topspeed on a little chop, say 20 - 30 cm and a bit of wind from the front.
The wind lifts the bow and on the small waves the hull hardly touches the water.

Would have to concede to a bit of tide :-), 48.8 is more like it. But it is nice to get over the magic 50 once in a while ...

And we do tides quite well in this part of the world!
