Nimitz Departure.

The carrier Nimitz left port today amid an "honour guard" of RIB's /RBB's /USCG vessels.
Quite a site as the thing is HUGE!!
Had to keep my distance but got a few shots.
Interesting to see one of the biggest Warships in the world had a RIB tucked into a special launching bay!
Of course my buddies in the USCG had to come over and make their presence known(always glad to see them! )
At least I didn't get pulled over by them
Instead ,was leaving the bay when the police boat cut across my bows.
(some serious power there! )
Just asking what I was up to and guess what they asked?
"Why did I get an orange boat??"
Oh well, working my way through the armed forces and wondering who is going to stop me next
cheers Dal

Hey Limeydal,

That rib is made by Willard. I saw one that had a 500 hp Cummins Diesel up for auction in Hawaii. There is another in Virginia that has a smaller 165 Volvo Penta but still the same size boat up for auction as well. They're fetching around $10,000 as government surplus. Talk about a deep V hull!!! , they're 24' long. I wonder what its like driving the one with 500 hp?
It must put the other with the Volvo to shame.

Nice pics as usual. The LA harbor although much bigger than San Diego's is not as fun and beautiful. We just have ugly container ships running in and out.
I almost want to bring my rib down there just to take in the scene. But Catalina makes up for it though.

Yanks becoming a little too paranoyed ! My ten year old was asked by US immigration officer in Ireland if she had ever been involved with terrorists Idiots ! Even if she was ... would she admit to it ???

Is it an offence to have an orange rib there yet By the way.. great pictures Limedal.

Paranoid isn't the word for it - they even stop people boarding aircraft with plastic model aircraft because there were missiles under the wing - insane or what????

The Yanks never seem to have heard of the word "terrorist" until Sept 11th - didn't stop the New Yorkers giving to the IRA though - different story when THEY get attacked!!!

Because of political correctness they can't just stop people who LOOK like they may belong to Al Quaeda so they stop everyone - including little girls!!!

The terrorist must be loving all this - they HAVE won - we in Britain never USED to let them get the better of us - London carried on as normal despite the IRA carrying out terrible attacks - now we just dumbly follow the same line as the Yanks!!! Thanks Mr Blair.....
