NRA Rib - Now Environment Agency

Here are some pics from when I worked for the NRA (National Rivers Authority) in Darlington.
We used the RIB - a Cobra - to take water samples on the River Tees.

Yarm - Lunch Stop

On this run we were taking sediment samples - hence the mud over the front of the boat

Hi Jools

Well that looks fun. Thanks.

Next week my eldest daughter Karen (Marine Biologist) is off to Hull University for 3 years to do a funded Phd. Se is being paid to do research into the muscle population of The Wash. It is sponsored by English Nature, The Environment Agency and the Fisheries Industry. I asked her if I could come out in the boat occasionaly!

Must be nice to have someone else pay for your boating.

Cheers

Keith (not jealous, oh yeah!) Hart

Keith,

Your daughter must be one smart cookie - you've been had, and she's fleeced the EA and English Nature.

The only 'muscles' near the Wash are to be found on fellas!

She's in for three years of fun ............

Last one for now - Again the upper Tees - Tomorrow I will post some of the Lower Tees.

For a map of the area see

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap...arrow=N&zoom=5

the river is navigable to just upstream of Yarm.

At the location marked on the map (zoom in) is the Tees Barrage - have a look at this site - lots of pictures of the Tees.

http://www.nymcam.free-online.co.uk/042601.htm

The Barrage splits the river into a tidal, and non tidal river at this point. Down towards the mouth of Tees it gets very industrialised and busy with Bulk Tanker ships See the Tees and Harlepool Port Authority site for info

http://www.thpal.co.uk/default.htm

just had a look - good maps of the river.

So as you can see a very varied and interesting River.

Cheers
Jools

ps - Yes there is a speed limit of 7MPH on the upper Tees - but the NRA was exempt from that Bye-Law
- Guess who wrote them
