Dear all, I always enjoy browsing these pages to see what y’all are up to, so I thought I would contribute once again. As before, this post follows in the same vein as the previous one (http://www.rib.net/forum/f16/lake-re...nia-40230.html).

The footage and pics were taken January 2014. For the time being, I’m limited to posting short clips due to size constraints. Be sure to watch them in HD though, otherwise it’s just not worth a dam.

Footage accessed here: https://vimeo.com/84550456

By the way, I assume anybody who operates RHIB also likes things that go fast over rough terrain, if so, I’ve also posted some footage detailing the lesser known side of Los Angeles, CA: https://vimeo.com/77569493

by the way, the underwater footage is meant to show the ridiculous visibility of these waters. The special gear is necessary because water temperature is 7 C below the thermocline and 10 C near the surface. cold. very cold.
Thats it for now, until I am able to upload some photographs.

Lovely pics and videos, the scenery looks stunning.
Mind, for us Brits, the temperatures you mention are not that cold
I have been teaching, in a wetsuit, at lower temperatures. To be fair though, I was not thousands of miles from a warm cup of tea either
Please keep them coming.

I am glad you like them.

Ian, I’ve met several Brit ex-pats around these parts; hardcore gentlemen indeed. I’m from California and lived a large part of my life in Texas, so I’m accustomed to something else entirely. But to be honest, these pics are completely deceiving. The weather down here is miserable throughout the entire year, navigating these waters is serious business and I’ve often told myself to capture some footage; but always decide to save the SD card and battery to capture the rare sunny calm days that convert this land into what you see here. In short, the equipment is a necessity to navigate these waters and dive during ‘normal’ weather conditions.

Chris: LA has a lot to offer, and certainly the better part is away from the Freeways and the glitter.

Anyways, I few more pics…

it's no wonder that driving off road is so popular over there, I'm thinking of shipping my landrover over to give it a try

I was going to suggest combining the rough camping with a bit of off roading Kerny, but as you've not got a proper motor that's a non starter

Brutus, a stupid question I know, but how do you get there from California with all your diving kit and the boat, or do you hire from somewhere local, more great pics by the way

Dear Chris, that’s not a stupid question by any means. I have spent the last five years thinking about logistics. The short reply is: I source absolutely everything from the States. There is zero possibility to attain equipment locally, and in the off chance I could, whomever controls it behaves as if they possess the kit’s own weight in platinum. It is very difficult to bring anything into Patagonia without having to deal with cost-prohibitive taxes, penalties, etc. The best bet is to simply ingress as a tourist, which unfortunately means removing all the equipment from the country after a period of 3 months, although it is not uncommon to make a token trip out and return the same week in order to be granted another 3 month stay.

Brutus

Ps. Also, one learns what works and what doesn’t. For instance at first I took an Apeks ‘flight’ regulator, a beautiful low profile unit. Later I realized that a proper cold water regulator is needed as free flow would occur every once and a while.

Ps2. Fishing? Are any of you guys familiar with Riffe
