Powerboat Racing @ Southsea

Hi

I spent a very pleasant afternoon watching the Powerboats racing off of Southsea this afternoon.

There were some some very impressive RIBS ( I took pictures of the rigid boats as well, but I guess not the forum for those!) and it made a good opportunity to try out my new camera

Rgds

I've never been to a powerboat racing event before, so I don't really understand all the different classes, etc, but it was just fun to see lots of fast boats dashing around. Like this one - this I think is a Bat Boat?

And I guess that the final race was an open race, as all sorts of different craft were in it?

OK - these are definitely RIBs...

All those boats with wings are "Bat boats" which is a generic term for this style of boat designed by Ocke Mannerfelt.

The boats with a V number and the enclosed cockpit are V24 one-design boats which is a new class this year.

Thanks for the comments, Ribald and Richard B.

Yes, I was the chap in Blue Rib with the SLR (Canon 300D + 300mm zoom). There were so many RIBs out there it was like RIBEX on the water!

Here's a few more...
