QE2 Pics. Last Trip from Clyde

We made it out last night....one of the best boating experiences we've had!
Never seen so many boats out on the Clyde....

Can't help thinking it's a bit sad that the boat has been sold off to the highest bidder. If it's such a national treasure, and managed to bring out so many people during it's final tour of the country, what, if anything, was done to try and keep it in the UK?

It was v rough, plenty of Ribs out, most of which followed her out to the main channel.

We got as far as the Little Cumbrae, but had to chuck it cause of the dark, and rising wind.

Here's some more pics from QE2 leaving the Clyde.....

The 4th pic is a RIB caught in the camera flash, highlighting the reflective stuff on it. It was a battle just to keep the camera pointed in the right direction.

The weather forecast was right, but it was worth it!

Cheers

Truly a sad day. The last of the great liners - they are all cruise ships now.

Britain is great at treating it's heritage with such contempt. The Queen Mary is only still around because the Yanks are looking after it. The Queen Elizabeth ended up at the bottom of Hong Kong harbour. And what they did to Warspite was criminal after it's amazing history.

Thanks for piccies; nice to see her in detail.

Reason for her lateness: many wee boats all over the place. Who could they have been, I wonder?

All we saw was a wall of light heading towards Ailsa Craig afterwe'd got home

And there's now 200 people on Arran who were stood near the measured mile who are convinced that the QE2 is orange and 6.3m long...

She was late coming down your way, cause somebody heard you'd closed up for the day, so they had to stop the ship at Gourock to get the provisions in for the trip.

No self service aisle on the Ailsa Craig!

Send a message via MSN to Clyde Rib'r
nice pics of the great QE2, will resize mine asap and get them on.
Was up in the morning when she berthed, amazing ship and got some great pics due to all the other boats heading away, I was off work so I could stay that little bit later in the morning

Seen you Craig whilst on my mates boat heading down past skermorlie, went down to take the rib out to see her leave and well after I got in the kip in the morning i'd left the VHF on, went back down tho and turned it off about 20mins later, so when I went to start the beast up to head out it wouldnt go gutted man, but luckily a mate of mine headed back in so I got to see the mighty QE2 head doon the watter. I'll have a word in the pilots ear at work for chasing you down, in fact I may not as I want to get onboard when hes heading ouyt to pick up a ship to bring into my work

Amber were you both wearing helmets??

Cheers Dave

ps, i heard shes back in greenock next year? any idea when??

Big orange ones!

We were like two tangerines on a toothpick...

So nobody will recognise us, and we can scoot under the bows of huge ships without being identified!!

Genius!

So next time I do that, I can blame you!

Then, when we get pulled over, I'll say..'it's not us you want gv'nr, it's them with the alternating orange and lemon heads' !!

Saw a ribcraft follow the 1350 boat across the river today. It looked like the black ribcraft from the training centre at Lamlash. Thought it was yourselves at first.

Cheers

Nope, wrong place for us - we took some SLC down to Paddy's Milestone for a wee neb. It got a bit choppy on the way down - took 15 minutes longer than usual. Oh well. The trip was a lot in our Village Hall fundraising auction - they paid GBP215 for it. Well worth it in my book - they got a few extras thrown in

Oh, and all the dosh went to the hall funds - we even did this with the sanction of the island HMCG SO

I thought Arran Adventure had flogged their older boats - just one Quinquari Humber (which I think is now in Largs for the winter). That boat is Cowal's big sister

Cowal's outside on her trailer now - that's why the weather's improved

That's why we are now just "Britain" not Great Britain like we once were....and don't even get me started about Concorde..

Best not mention TSR2 then....

Isn't in amazing how the Yanks loved their space programme but actually protested against Concorde landing at their airports - bet it would have had an amazing reception if it had been built over there!!!
