Russian Submarine
Our Comrades in Moscow have an agreement with the Irish Government, we pretend to be netural, and they sneak nuclear powered subs with nuclear missiles on board, into Irish ports. The subs lie beside submarine telephone cables, listening to phone conversations etc, coming out of the UK, we facilitate this, being Paddys, have a bit of a part to play in the Cold War, thats supposed to be over, its all very hush, hush I cant saw where this is for reasons of National security, just remember the Russians are coming, we have Red October right here in Ireland ,make sure your motor is trimmed out fully, in case one of these babies decides to surface.

There are approx 5500 wrecks around the British Isles , a very famous one is the Leinster, she lays on the Kish bank, maybe 8 miles east of Dun Laoghaire, the Leinster was the mail boat from Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead, she is one of many vessels lost from Irish ports, that were sunk by German subs, only when it was torpedoed, it was en route to Holyhead carring passengers with the mail. Have you ever been to Malin Head or , seen the word Eire , made out of stones on the ground, visible from the air, to stop German bombers dropping bombs on Ireland, or visited the North Strand in Dublin, which felt the brunt of misplaced German bombs. Are you maybe confusing history with the Cuban missile Crisis, and Castro I though this post was about Russian Subs?

Yeah views expressed on the Mainland , wouldnt necessarly concide with views and opinions expressed in this part of Western Europe, when I say Europe I would be including countries truly European .For example , common currency Euro zone, speed limits in metric ( kms) etc etc.
I would also like Russian Submarines to feel very welcome when they do indeed visit us , as they do

Just as well Britain didn't declare herself "neutral" - seem to have heard we actually stuck our necks out to get rid of the Nazis!!!
As to being a "European" what the hell does Southern Ireland have in common with places like Germany or Italy??? Just beacuse some idiots in Brussells have dreamt up a way of fleecing people doesn't make us all united - whoops just remembered - Eire has done rather well out of Europe recently - unlike the UK who has had to pay to drag many countries into the modern world - Spain being a classic example!!!
And don't think I am anti Irish - Ireland is a great country and I have always found the people very friendly - personally I preferred Eire when it was a bit more "quaint" than it is now - much like West Wales - after all there isn't much difference really!!!

There is nothing recent about Ireland doing well out of the EEC , we have been members since 1973, you might also note that in 1963, and 1967 Britian had its application refused to join the EEC.
Comparing Ireland to Wales , now that is a joke, Ireland has the fastest growing economy in Western Europe, another very real reason why Ireland has done so well recently, unlike Wales.
In addition to this, Irish people would be very proud of their neturality.
As Irish citizens, we know none of our taxes paid goes towards wars, in other parts of of the world.
Spain has done very well out of the UK, buts thats down to people travelling there and spending currency.
As far as Brussels fleecing the UK is concerned, when you guys join the Euro, and it will happen sooner rather than later, as the UK will be unable to continue to trade competively with the transperancy Euro brings.
Another reason why Ireland prospers,
Why for example would I buy something in the UK, change my Euro to Sterling, pay a transction cost at the counter of my Bank Branch, on top of the cost of the goods I am purchasing, when I could simply do a Euro to Euro transfer in a Sister European country, even if I wanted to buy in the UK, its not viable any more.
Ireland hasnt declared herself netural, it has been netural since its foundation as a free State in 1921.

The reason I likened Irish people was NOTHING to do with economic reasons!!!
It is all very well being neutral but there ARE times when turning the other cheek is just NOT an option - standing up to Hitler just HAD to be one of those times - good job a lot of other countries had the guts to do something about it!!!
You seem to have a VERY rosy view of the EU - have you ANY idea of the massive subsidies Ireland and Spain have received?
Ireland rejected the Nice treaty because
" But the treaty's opponents, including the Greens, the republican Sinn Fein, socialists and a number of religious groups, say Ireland will lose generous EU subsidies if new, poorer members are admitted"
And you say you HAVEN'T had big subsidies???
Spain has also had massive subsidies - have you seen their roads??? Dual carrigeways leading to tiny villages with NO traffic - it's a farce!!!
As to Britain joing the Euro and it being the way to go look how many countries are now regretting it - just ask the Spanish people or the Dutch what they think of it now!!!
I think people are at last waking up to what the EU is really about - even the French and the Dutch are turning against it now - just look at what happened to their votes for the Constitution!!!

Sorry for having the fastest growing economy in Europe for the past 10 years or so and for reaping the benefits of not being a net contributor to the EU coffers etc. You sound like a very balanced person Codprawn
