Safety RIB for Amphicar "Swim"

Just came back from a great day out with a bunch of members at the "amphicar" club's 5th annual San Diego "Swim" as they like to call it.
I had turned up as the safety boat for the event and as it happened I had quite a busy day!
I had three "saves" for the day, but really no real danger to the cars as it took place on a calm inland lake just outside San Diego. The worst that could have happened was the cars drifting in the strong breeze into the reeds .
Even so it was good to be able to help and get them back on the ramp after they lost power.
With no tow points above water, it was a matter of getting along side and the occupants holding onto the lifelines as we headed slowly back to shore.

A great day ,where the members gave free rides to the public and especially a number of disabled children who really took to the experience.

Even the local TV news turned up ,but they resisted the urge to show the segment where I was towing the car back to the ramp.(Still got a 1/2 second in the background shots)

After breaking down on their ride a group of european students asked to go for a ride in my RIB. well who I am to refuse So did my bit to show them a slightly differant type of ride
So many thanks to the Amphicars and hope to do again next year!!
(They really need tubes on those things though!!!!! )

cheers Dal

Would those be the European students in that last photo?

Different kind of ride, eh?

yes, those are the ones!
Just had to show them what a rigid inflatable could do after those old triumph herald powered cars.
Certainly got some loud screams out of them in the tight turns and they said it was better then Disneyland. So maybe have a few new converts!
