Just came back from a great day out with a bunch of members at the "amphicar" club's 5th annual San Diego "Swim" as they like to call it.
I had turned up as the safety boat for the event and as it happened I had quite a busy day!
I had three "saves" for the day, but really no real danger to the cars as it took place on a calm inland lake just outside San Diego. The worst that could have happened was the cars drifting in the strong breeze into the reeds .
Even so it was good to be able to help and get them back on the ramp after they lost power.
With no tow points above water, it was a matter of getting along side and the occupants holding onto the lifelines as we headed slowly back to shore.
A great day ,where the members gave free rides to the public and especially a number of disabled children who really took to the experience.
Even the local TV news turned up ,but they resisted the urge to show the segment where I was towing the car back to the ramp.(Still got a 1/2 second in the background shots)
After breaking down on their ride a group of european students asked to go for a ride in my RIB. well who I am to refuse
So did my bit to show them a slightly differant type of ride
So many thanks to the Amphicars and hope to do again next year!!
(They really need tubes on those things though!!!!! )
cheers Dal
