Seabed
Not a picture of a RIB, but one taken from a RIB - I hope that counts?
50m down in some of the most tidal waters known.

Not far, but far enough to still be in Alderney waters and not French.

I'll give you a hint: That's the mating grounds of the (extremely) rare zebra whale. Some, erm, evidence remains...

It is the stuff underneath the blue wobbly thing your RIB sits in.
The name is confusing I admit, sea - not made of water. And then bed - mostly rocks and other hard things, not bed like at all.

The OP is a typical opening teaser post.
Ok, I'll take the Malteaser's bait and ask...
"Where, who and why?"

I just saw the co-ords on the pic. So much for educated guesswork!
So anyway, I'd like to know the whys and wherefores. Those look like either bryozoans or possibly sponges on a Maerl/rock substrate. Wassup?

... We have been doing a video survey run of the seabed in the Alderney Race for the whole of 2009, the results are as you can see quite pretty but also quite surprising.
The effects on the environment down there are predictably turbulent, but the way species cope with that is quite something. None of the usual rules apply as the over riding influence is the movement of the water.
It is all about the tide, as the purpose of the survey is to form a baseline of data ahead of the rolling out of Alderney's tidal power development.
