Seawork 2009
I dropped in to Seawork for a while today. Quite a few RIBs in a variety of sizes, and various degrees of greyness and warriness!
Some general views of the pontoons:

2 Ribcraft Pro 9.0 and Delta "Typhoon" Offshore Interceptor
3 Scorpion from LynxSports, and a couple of Ribquests - one with a jet pod

Interesting new "inflatable RIB" - and it really is! The deep-V hull and deck are made of dropthread neoprene (airdeck floor material) resulting in inflatable rigid hull. There's more info and some video on the De Batts web site.
You would need a very good reason to have one though, as they're around £14k which is rather a lot for a 5.3m boat . . .

Some nice boats but it looks like I designed the console on the Delta blindfolded with the pencil between my toes!

It's the only exhibition I'm interested in and I've missed it three years running cos of work.
May I ask how many of the commercial ribs had inner bladders and bolt on toobs.
and how much was that Multicat in the first picture.
was the jet pod diesel or petrol

The Zodiac Hurricane had a compressor in the engine bay that inflated/deflated the tubes at the touch of a button! Tubes were also bolt on as well as the Arctic and the Pac obviously.
The zodiac had to be the most awesome rib I have ever seen and I was one of the lucky few who blagged a go in it! 11 metres (I think), twin 450hp diesels, surface drives, 60 knots! It's the only one built so far and already sold (can't remember who to) for £500,000
Halmatic were there with the new Pac 24. This ones all carbon fibre making it quicker than a twin 250 o/b Arctic! Cant see these ones turning up for peanuts in a gov. auction any time soon, £400,000 new!

I understand where your coming from Rich and they do look functional.
Have they been tested in wind tunnels to see if they offer the best protection for the helm and crew though?
Seems a shame having the Ullman seats if the crew aren't offered the best protection?

I don't understand how "wind tunnel testing" would have any effect on crew comfort. The console helm position and throttle position is 'possibly' the first in the industry to fully meet RNLI/Human factors/industry papers. The height and position of controls and systems along with the position of the foot straps is designed to suit the helm (and crew) to the utmost alongside Ullman data. Whilst i agree the upper part of the main console could be reduced in height to suit the view forwards of helms under 6ft better (myself being 5ft9), the view over the console still allows clear visibility of the bow and beyond. The 700mm width of the forward console also allows more than adequate protection to the helm from wind and spray force from the front. The final boat being supplied with helmets with an integrated communications system. What further protection are you referring to?

Rich - I think what Chewy is asking is how do you know it offers the best possible protection (is "more than adequate" - good enough - surely everything else on board you have designed to be "best in class"?) - and for example could your desire to lower the height for short arses - be possible without compromising protection for the fully grown! IMHO, helmets, as PPE, are for crew safety and not an ideal way of protecting against wind/rain/spray. Although I am not sure if a wind tunnel would actually be able to replicate wind/waves/rain/spray at potentially relatively low speeds.
