Shell Beach Herm

After six years of owning a little fishing boat and having a family that that changed our requirements we decided to buy a rib. After much research we decided on a coastline 7m with a Suzuki 150 which was finally delivered in July just in time for us to go on holiday so last weekend was our first outing as a family. What a day! Picnic and beach gear safely stowed we left St Peter Port at 0900 and as it was our first trip, the engine was not run in and not wanting to scare the kids we left at 8 - 10 knots only to run immediately into the wash of the Condor Ferries. I turned round to see the kids grinning from ear to ear so off we set just on the plane 12 - 15 knots and we were soon at Shell Beach, nosed the boat up the beach and offloaded, anchored the boat offshore an rowed ashore which was adoddle to do compared to my old boat. We had the most idylic day playing on the beach and swimming only to leave at 1600. As soon as we were at the sea the two boys fell asleep and slept all the way home securely propped up against mum, much to the amusement of the boats waiting for fuel in the QEII when we arrived. Any way the family have declared the new boat a great success, her sea keeping is so much better than the old boat and much easier to handle.

RIB's are fantastic and thanks for all the advice I have gleamed from this site since I joined.

Tony was that you that passed us on the way home?

Great pictures of the Alderney trip what a day, well done!

What a lovely looking rib!!
You must be so proud, and your family seem to really enjoy it too.
We were moored at the quiet end of shell beach, I find it easier that end and there is far less boats. We left at about four so i think it was us..were you guys waving at us?
We spend most weekends over there, so i'll look you up next time.

Tony

Shell

Tony,

That was us waving.

I agree that the north end of shell is the better end and we would have always headed that end BC (before children) however the long walk to the beach cafe for an icecream with kids who will probably want to be carried some of the way makes the south end a priority.

Have you been into the humps? If we get another day like saturday then I think I would like to give it a try. If I can persuade the family that a beach without an icecream shop is a good idea.

Next time we are out we will keep an eye out for you.

look forward to seeing you out there.
We have bought a donut and wakeboard so we hope to try them out next weekend. I'll post some pix from last week when i get home later.

Tony,

Its like having a bit of the carribean at home, only you think twice before going for a swim.

Been out for an hour tonight before the rain came in just to get some time on the engine, even at 20 - 25 knots its amazing the distance you travel in 45 mins.

I can't wait until it is run in and I can give it some welly.

Rob
