Not good at all concrete very very disappointed. Not with the engine that was amazing bit the hull because it has been capped. Unbalanced, massively affected by the wind, fell all over the place in swell. I'll be rearranging the set up and taking the capping off the flooding hull to start and upgrading to hydrolic seastar 2.4 steering that's for sure

That sounds like an overweight engine.. whilst under way the blocked off / or uncapped hull will make no difference
Only at rest and engine weight then is irrelevant.
I have found that any engine over 130 kgs will unbalance a SR5.4.
Sadly there isn't much around at the mo or lose some HP

I would agree but all my other engines are heavier and not one exhibit any issues at all. All the 4s have replaced 121kg 2s yammies and 140kg twatsoo. Not one has changed.
As you an see the Honda is not much different except no hydrolic steering and capped hull.

In the service bay for some TLC ( much needed) . Its been floating about the web for a while looking for a home - plan is ;
Seats recovered
A good clean & tidy up
A thorough going over mechanically
OK OK I know I own an Evinrude in Johnson clothing - but its PTT and starts, stops, revs and pumps water how it should.
Trailer bearings are shot as are tyres ( but made it up the M27 phew ! - I did spot Biffs boat floating about from the bridge )
Then just have fun ...its never going to be mint - tubes been patched and hulls been abused.
I wont have it all done by AJ Cowes weekender - but lets be honest for Matt H ......?.he wont stay out of it!

There must be something else different. Highly unlikely the blocked hull will affect handling during planning speed. If something, the transom might be stiffer as blocked and that would only improve handling.
It can be the propeller or other things affecting the balance. Pretty sure things will not improve at speed when You have unblocked the hull, the hull compartment should be empty either way at speed. But If You have trapped moving water in the blocked hull, then it would possible act like described?
