Some photos from Alderney

On this happy and cheerful morn, I thought you might be interested in some photos of the harbour wall. It is 36ft. high and sometimes the waves break over it up to 4 times it's height.
The first shows just the wall (nearly .75mile long).
The second is taken from the same spot a few seconds later.
And the third is taken form a completely diferent angle showing what the lifeboat has to put up with.

Stunning place - looks a bit like my harbour sometimes.

No wonder RIBs are so popular in the CI - The Swinge isn't much fun in a yacht!!!

It was just that a friend was telling me today that the Fort can be hired to stay at and lo and behold you put a picture on RIBNET.

Do you know where the nearest place is to moor a RIB ?

You can hire it from these people:

http://www.landmarktrust.org.uk/pdf/062-063_Clonque.PDF

although, by rumour it is booked up for some time ahead.

The nearest (and only safe) place to leave you rib, would be in Braye harbour. This is about a mile or so from the fort. Apart from taxis, a lift could be arranged!
Although, be aware, if you are staying there, the Germans, who built the causeway to it, did not take note of spring tides. So in the evening, if you are dining at a local restaurant, the owner may come to your table at say 21.30, cough discretely, and say "if you are staying at Fort Clonque, you might like to settle up and go".

We hired the Forte a couple of years ago, what a brilliant weekend. Highly recommend it.
