Looks like I probably managed to pick the wettest day of the show this year, but I was surprised how many people were there on a rainy Tuesday. My camera has dried out now, and here's a run down of some of the RIBs on display. It's not comprehensive, but even so there are photos of boats from twenty or so companies here which I think is pretty impressive.

Starting with Redbay to keep a certain member of the admin team happy, who were represented at the show by their by their UK distributor MRL. On the stand they had the mighty Skerryvore, back from the Round Ireland jaunt, and a very useful looking 7.4 with a 250hp Hyundai diesel.

You can clearly see the MRL influence on the other 7.4 with the smart 2-tone upholstery for a more leisurely appearance.

Also on the MRL stand were some very nicely finished Stingher RIBs, looking good in their UK spec.

The cabin RIB is probably a bit of a "Marmite" boat (you'll love it or hate it), but it's definitely big!

Ribcraft were there is force as usual, with their stand plus boats on the Suzuki pontoon and their show patrol boats. Black and businesslike seems to be the order of the day with the new fisheries patrol boat dominating the stand.

On the pontoons was a tidy 585, slightly eclipsed by Mike Garside's Magellan Zulu!

Solent Rib Charters also had a very smart Ribcraft on their pontoon berth, promoting their bareboat charters.

Scorpion had a couple of ex-demonstrator models for sale. Looking good in their now-customary pastel colour schemes, both beautifully made and reassuringly expensive as you would expect.

Lots of Ribeyes around the show, looking good in their new dark grey and maroon colour scheme as well as some (Scorpion inspired?) pastel colours too.

Ballistic however appear to be sticking to their "one colour suits all" range with an fleet of almost identical different sized boats.

Andre was there with his new Parker demonstrator RIB and a selection of their fishing boats and weekenders. He also has the best coffee at the show if you can wangle your way into their hospitality caravan!

Also from Poland are the Technomarine RIBs sold by Piranha, which are streets ahead of the Chinese boats they were importing a couple of years ago. The 10m commercial boat and the 6m leisure boat both look smart and well finished. They've dropped the confusing union jack from their logo too.

On the Barnet Marine stand there were the XS RIBs that you would expect to see, but also their new sportier XS760 with a rather less utilitarian look than normal.

The Zodiac display featured their flagship N-ZO, along with the Open Pro 500 and a selection of smaller boats.

Also on their stand was the Avon 330 jet which was so badly finished that I had to check the makers plate to see if they had started importing boats from China (it was built in France).

Next door was the Williams stand. Their Turbojet 325 is about the same money as the Avon and is absolutely flawless like the rest of their range. Why would anyone buy the Avon?

The rest of the Williams range was also lined up for inspection, including the 180HP Dieseljet 625 with a full canopy keeping the rain at bay.

As an alternative to a jet tender when your on-board garage has limited headroom, how about one of the Italian Cabrio range from BHG? The transom tilts on a powered ram, lowering the overall height to less than 1000mm, and you still have the familiarity and ease of servicing of a regular outboard!

Larger tenders are the niche that Rib-X have established for themselves, producing customer RIBs for superyachts from major shipyards.

My favourite quote of the day came from someone looking at the 600hp Technohull RIB. "But what would you do with it?" was the question. Presumably the answer would be "Go very fast and smile a lot!"

I eventually found Bembridge Marine, but there was no sign of anyone around and by that time the rain was so bad that the stand had a moat around it! Still, the Shearwater RIB looked good - purposeful and well finished.
