St Kilda

My father and i managed our first trip to St Kilda on Saturday .. We only live 40 odd miles away and had the Rib since 06 .. wont leave it so long to go again!!

What a place

Decided to take the long way round Leaving from Lochmaddy on the East side of North Uist 58nm - The shortest distance is 35nm - but the boat was already in the water at the Lochmaddy Pontoon

Took about 2hr 45min each way at about 20 Knots due to another Non Rib friend (Hardy 24)
123nm round trip using about 85 Litres

The weather was pretty rubbish all the way with Misty rain, after 2-3miles we couldnt see North Uist behind us and Kilda didnt appear until we were 5 Miles away .. The Garmin earned its keep thats for sure!

Awesome, that's a place I'd love to visit. Did you explore the island much?

Good on ya!...
When you gotta go...Weather not withstanding ..You Gotta GO!
Poor Vus conditions especially Fog makes any longish haul a lot more challenging and mentally demanding....(but on occasion overcoming them ultimately rewarding)....small Islands in a Big Sea are easily missed!!

.... I know that feeling of real gratude to "The Garmen Gods" too!

Well done that man!

A bit of a navigational challenge adds spice to the win. The day I went I was encouraged to leave the island to give the RAF a clear run at the place....

...at least, that's the excuse reason I was given.

We didnt see everything we would have hoped to as time was against us and halfway up there was a layer of fog covering the whole island so we couldnt see much anyway, got to the highest road point anyway.
