Stefnir, ICE-SAR boat 29.12.2009
We went on Stefnir SAR boat at lunch time from Kopavogur harbour onwards to Snarfari marina for refueling, once we approached Grotta we ran into very strong notherly wind and got lot of sea spray, once we approached Ellidarvogur nearby Snarfari marina there were thick ice so we couldn´t come close to the marina and we had to return back to Kopavogur harbour.

Once again, great pics from life on the edge
My own rib is icebound at present , the hill where I live is thick in ice, strictly difflock territory until it thaws, so fingers crossed for a New Year's Day run.
Did the lad in that photo just get out of the water? Nutters! I noticed the pontoon ladder painted Fluorescent Orange and remembered that EVERY waterside ladder in Iceland was painted thus, important when it's dark all winter and the water is at -1 C

She jumped into the water
Very common thing to do when we get back ashore (this time to pontoon)
Air temperature was -9 degrees, water temperature most likely around -1 or -2 degrees

Hi Bogi
looks a bit Chilly
Whats going on with the boat I've circled(Very roughly) in the image?
It looks like a small fishing boat that is up on a floating dock, or is it just a strange hull shape at the stern?
Nasher.

No, we have only one lifejacket, we however are using two types of them at the moment the old Crewsaver we are facing out for Baltic lifejackets, the corregated tube on Baltic is for breathing under the hood if we end up in the water in high seas. Northern Diver neoprene dry suits has also floating capacity and are very warm, way to worm in the summer time, they will shortly benn phased out for Ursuit dry suits.
No the cold is not affecting us a lot, idle engine heat are around 48 degrees running the engines at 4.500 revs the engine temperature are around 34 degrees which is a bit on the lower side but are not affecting us, we have isolated the oil tanks and the cables from the tanks to the engines in order to prevent the two stroke oil to freeze.

Cold on Sunday!
I've ordered uninterrupted sunshine - although the gentle north-easterly (so that the mainland will shelter those in the Solent) which I've also requested may make it a little colder than ideal.
.... and Bogi: a happy New Year to you and all your family from me and all the other Avocets.

We are having tonight no wind, clear skies and -5 degrees so fantastic weather for fireworks, we will fire up alltogether more than 25 kgs of stuffies
Happy New Year to you all, was great meeting you all here and in the Solent, hope to see you all with your RIB in Iceland 2011 when we will host Iceland Rib Festival 2011

Bogi, I now see that you have a "bad influence" on our Chris as he has now taken to ribbing at -14 degree C and also turned the rib into an ice breaker
