Hi Gary,
It's not just a sun canopy.
One of it's main functions (appart from the sun) is to keep the boat dry (and my staff under it) while cruising in bad weather (spray , big waves etc).
The canopy has at it's end (peripheraly) every 10 or 15 cm , wholes.
An elastic rope of about 10 cm is attached to each whole.
At the other end of each elastic rope a plastic haddle is attached.
The elastic rope can be stretched to about 15cm.
To fit the canopy you stretch each haddle and attach it to the rubbing strake. It takes two or three minutes to finish the job.
In order for this to work properly, the canopy has to be the right size for your boat as well as the legth of the elastic rope.
If want to try it , and you can not find the plastic haddles in the UK, I can send you a couple of them via post .
Regards
Dimitris

Clips like that sounds are on the Zodiac covers, eyelet in cover, knicker elastic loop through, inch and a half wide plastic hook on the loop. Fits under the strake. Held the cover through all the west of Scotland can throw at it this winter. (and why pick on winter, we're currently westerly 8/9, continual heavy rain - but this morning was windless, blue sky, nice sun - och weel, it stops you getting bored).

A frame

Hallo Dimitris, nice pics.
To make a cruise in small cyclades is a my dream.
How you go there, with your boat or with a ferry-boat.
I have been in Paros, Naxos, Astipaleia, Sporades,Spetses and ionian island.
I love Greece, I spend my holydays there since 1982.

First just forgot to say wellcome to this Forum!!
Is good to know that people look at http://www.gommoniegommonauti.it is quite famous in Italy.
Gabriele was saying to me that he will be sailing with Flora their RIB to Santorini this summer to come and see us.
Any way, I have never been to Alonisos. In fact I have never to sporades. They say that most of the islands there are very green.
We usually cruise near and about Cape Sunion and mainly the the Cyclades.
Back in 2002 we (wife, daughter3 then and son 11) went on the RIB from Cape Sounion to Lefkas. Passed the Korinth Canal and the Korinth Gulf where we hit NNW winds force 6 on the way there and back. It was a very nice journey. However, Lefkas did not impressed me. Neither Ithaki or Kefalonia. Paxi on the other hand was quite nice. It was also nice crossing the Canal between Lefkas and Greece mainland.
I think you should think seriously visiting the Cyclades.
I understand you have been to Paros but also try to visit Ios, Folegandros, Sikinos, Santorini (this is a unique volcanc island with an active volcano) and also Anafi.
Dimitris is not in Athens yet (spoke to him a few days ago and he has taken very long holidays ) so you will have to wait if you want see some photos of Naxos and Paros from him. He was in Paros & Naxos in summer 2003.
Well since I talked about Santorini this is photo I took in 5th October 2003. This was taken from the Capital Fira and overlooks the volcano and the east side of the Caldera. The tip at the end is called Akrotiri

The Sporades are beautiful island, I have been there 4 times and when my children become bigger (now 5 and 7 years ), I will return there.
I have post here one my experience in Alonissos.
http://www.gommoniegommonauti.it/delfini/russano.html
I understund your impression about Lefkas but it is a good base for day cruise to the near island(Meganissi, Kalamos, Ithachi,Chefalonia etc).
In the Ithachi channel( and around the island), the wind wil reinforce at 2.00 p.m. and near Lefkas is quite.
You live in a beautiful place (5 oktober at Santorini and me in Lugano).
In 1990 I waas for the last time in cyclades, every day force 6/7,and me with a small classic inflatable of mt 3.70.
I hope to retourn one times.
Porto Katsiki - Lefkas

Nice photo.
Yes, I have read the article
Ma quanto russano st'Inglesi...
LOLOL )
That was a very lucky encounter with the seal!!
That is a very nice photo.
Regarding the Aegean you are correct it is a bit windy. However, it had been unsually windy in 1990 for a few years. Then the winds dropped, it was windy again in 1995 to 1996 and is OK now. As you are aware in the Aegean meltemi is NNE winds force 4-6 starting from 9 am to 4/5 pm.
In the Ionian is different the wind picks up at about lucnh time and dies down at about 5/6 pm.
Both areas have their attractions as every place in the World has it own attractions.
The photo you posted just now looks fantastic!
Is very nice to talk to you!!
Finally, if you look at our family site you will see some photos of Cape Sounion, Kea, Kithnos (I think) and a few other islands in the Aegean. The link on my signature. Just clik it.

Nice photo Barabarossa. I got a very old MARCO 4mtr conntional with a 35bhp Envirude similar to the Jonson that you have there. I got this boat to go fishing. It was 2nd habd and cost with engine and trailer Euro 500!! Good price I think.
Regarding meltemi is not that bad. If early in the moring about 7:30-8 o'clock you are ok. Also if late in the evening about 5:30-6pm is ok too.
The sea in the Aegean it doesn't get that big maximum wave hight is about 2 mtrs and that is if it blows gale forse 8+.
Usually is about 0.5-1.5 mtrs in Kavo Doro.
There are days in the summer not more than 5-10 in total (and not consecuitive) that it blows force 8-9. And although you cannot make a long trip is ok if you round th coves. Aegean is not a humid as the Ionian and I like this dry atmosphere better.
I was just telling Gabriele about you that you have joined this forum He is thinking VERY SERIOUSLY to come to Santorini in the summer. Possibly take the boat and car to cape Sounion and leave the car and trailer in my house and travel on the boat to Santorini Just 90 miles and about 3.5-4 hrs on an average day.

Good the price of the package.
The Mar.co detachable is the descandent of Laros Pirelli.
Thank you for availability for support for the raid to Santorini bat my wife has not the maturity for a cruise in Cyclades.
This year I will make a test with a raid from Lefkas to Zante and next year maby to sporades and when my sailors become big I would come back to cyclades.I am waiting this moment ,me and my rib are ready.

OK Barabarossa I understand.
Whenever you think that you are ready for trip we will be there. Have to say that women don't like these long trips very much. I have my own expereiences with my wife LOLOL
The price of the MAR CO gommone was very good and the boat is in very good condition taking into account its age. The tubes have a lot of life in them yet. The valves are made from steal (or a very strong metal) and the engine works like a dream.
I took the stearing wheel and controls off and I just use the tiller instead.
It does about 35 knots flat out and is like a go cart in the sea!!
I was talking to Gabriele for you and he told me about Volavia's Project Forum. You have a PM.
Any way have a good weekend and talk next week.

Hi Luigi I looked at the PM send you one back. No problem you will do it when you are ready. The photo of the boat unfortunately is in Greece I do not have it here in England. I will post it when I go there next week.
What this means
"I took the stearing wheel and controls off and I just use the tiller instead."
is this
Ho preso la rotella di direzione ed i comandi fuori ed io utilizziamo appena l'attrezzo preferibilmente."
Hope my Italian is understandable. Haven't written Italina for a very long time.
