Sunday mishap..
I planned a quick dash to Mont St. Michel this morning but miscalculated the effect of high pressure on what was already a smallish tide. That sandbank wasn't there a month ago....

Ooopsie indeed!
Listening to Jersey CG all day, they had a fairly hectic time of it, including one mayday from a boat that found a rock with their hull (they were fine in the end).
It was certainly a nice day for an outing and lots of people grasped that opportunity.
Coming past Sark, St Peter Port Radio were taking a report from a broken down and becalmed yacht not far from my position. It turned out to just be a fuse and I was able to whip them out a replacement and they fired up the iron sail again, no word of thanks mind you.

There was another one last night, usual story little speedboat got lost fro Guernsey to Jersey.
They called CG on their mobile, said they were next to a nav buoy but didn't know which one! Turned out to be NW Minquiers so only about 15 miles off course!

Sound like good candidates for a PB2 course.

I'm fine thanks. I wasn't going as fast as I was in the video when I ran aground and the tide was still coming in but it was a bit worrying for a few minutes. I can't believe how much the sea bed has changed in the area in the six weeks since I was last there; amazing.

Did you get any warnings at all? I've got mighty close to some shallow areas before, but noticed a change in the water surface before I got in to trouble.

Maybe there was something going on on Sunday ?
I noticed the water had turned into mud when I came to a halt, that combined with the fact the prop blades turned into shovels when I raised the engine......
Easily done this time of year before things 'settle' over the summer.
More embarrased than worried for me - nothing like several yachts watching to make you feel a prat !

Regarding mud and sand banks - after unusual strong winds or seas, they can move/arrive/vanish with alacrity. I took myself off to a familiar haunt overseas this winter, expecting the usual nice beach but they had had a storm and there the beach was - gone! I could see the sand banks about 100-200m offshore, breaking the swell. They reckon they'll be back later in the season. It does make me very wary of Plotter displays of depositing shallows.

It was a semi-submerged Icelandic Ash Heap.
