Now you've pointed that out it looks perfect. Not often you see a jetty to tie your boat up to next to a slip round here. Your spoilt.

Slip looks good, not much info on Boatlaunch though. Can you give any further info - cost, anywhere to park trailers, general access etc. Thanks.

Its Channel View Centre on Jim Driscoll Way and costs £6.20 + £5 refundable deposit. Free parking for cars and trailers, I found out about this slip on Ribnet courtesy of Codprawn the best thing about it is access to the Severn at all states of the tide, outbound on the half hour inbound on the quarters.
Its worth just ringing Channel View(029 2037 8161) before arriving as they do close the slip on one or two occasions for events

I have not launched my RIB at Cardiff yet - something to do with some scum in Guernsey who ripped me off by not providing a trailer I paid for!!!

thanks for that - next time you go down there try to cruise down the coast to Porthcawl way - the cliffs at Ogmore and Nash Point are stunning - just watch out for sker point!!!

Yes I've windsurfed in Porthcawl and managed to lose a fin (and rip out half the fin box) on rocks off Newton,30 knots to dead stop in an instant, not pretty.

Hmm. Thanks for info. Quite fancy a trundle over sometime. Portishead Marina slip is due to open soon but the cost of £50 for a tractor launch has been mentioned.....bit of a rip off. Would rather drive a bit for a good slip and access, can explore a bit further down the Severn then.

Makes sense - the best fuel consumption you will ever get out of your RIB is when it's on it's trailer!!!

Swansea is not much further than Cardiff and then you get the stunning Gower coast to cruise around. For a great weekend of it you could head down to Milford one day - it's a boaters paradise.

Where did you launch from when you went to Ilfracombe Codprawn, me and my buddy are toying with the idea of bringing the RIBS down later in the year to make the trip. Costs and tidal access would be appreciated too if you know them, many thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

Just from the Nab Rock slip in Mumbles - although "launch" is not really a suitable term for the Quicksilver - you could almost chuck it in!!!

There are 2 slips at Nab Rock - the main one is great but the other slip is useable at any state of tide. There is a fee of about a fiver which covers parking allk day as well. Can get VERY busy weekends in the summer though although most people seem to manage even if they park on the road. The council run the slip so you have to register with them and show insurance.

Of course none of this applied to my quicksilver - they have a 15hp start point. Also no trailer no charge!!!

Excuse my ignorance but how would I go about registering with them?

Hi Matt, Had a look but never launched there, have you? Been out of Bristol docks and kept Taurus in Portishead marina for a few weeks in the summer (avoiding holiday traffic). Might try Beachley on neaps, don't fancy the spring race. Usually travel to Portland or West Wales but Beachley might make a cheaper local outing.

Just do it when you turn up - typical council types but as long as the paperwork is right they are happy bunnies - the blokes working there are really helpfull. All they want to see is valid insurance.

I feel sorry for them sometimes - they have to sit in their little hut all day long during the "summer" when it is sometimes peeing with rain and nobody around mid week. In the "winter" the slips are totally unmanned. Why they can't just staff them at weekends amazes me.
