Sunseeker fire
Well had my cake and ate it again last night out on Nestor for an hour or two, got back for a beer or two on the quay and then this happened.
This was at 11 last night - still steaming now ...
I think Poole lifeboat towed one away to stop it going up next to it...you could feel the heat from across the quay....

Video on you tube of the fire, believed to be a lightening strike. It's a 37M so must be worth £5M, really wouldn't want to be the one to fill in the claim on the insurance

If it was a 37m, you can double your £5m valuation.

Word on the Quay today was that it was an £11.2m boat and due to be collected by new owner tomorrow!
It had 7000lts of fuel on it to run over to Southampton and then hitch a ride over to Mexico.
Doh

Hmm , I'm not convinced , if it was lightning it was quiet. I was sat 100yards away ......I've been 100yards from a strike before and it was anything but quiet.......
This is it steaming the next morning ....

I'd agree with PeterM, I had a house window broken by a lightening strike 400 mtrs away from me. Woke the whole street and set off car alarms over a similar radius. If it was a strike, anyone close would certainly know about it.

Likewise, and what a bloody fright it gave me. You wouldn't miss it just because the telly was turned up a bit loud would you?

Went past sunseeker on Tuesday, they have put scafolding all round the boat and erected a cover so you can only see the black hull and not the burnt superstructure, a nearby sunseeker was having it's fire sprinklers tested I wonder if that is connected..ho ho

Heard on the grapevine yesterday that Sunseeker do not appear to be covered for lightening on their insurance! And that the are looking to re-use the hull.

'if' it was lighting it would be covered. I think this would be the rumour mill starting up.......sunseeker have thier own specific scheme through colemans....individual boats on 'sunseeker shield' as well as thier own bespoke commercial policy via colemans.

Was on an electronics installers course today (I get an NMEA certificate and everything!) - the rumour was it was a tin of acetone and a heater, the first thing the night watchman knew about it was the fire engines woke him up .......................
............................... Allegedly!
