Technohull 888
One of my main reasons for visiting Athens was to see the new Technohull 888 and discuss production versions.
This is the first of a nw series of designs code named 'AquaVITE'. Basically a very high speed range of craft / designs.
The 888 shown is with small tubes and will be fitte out as a raceboat. Leisure versions will have larger diameter tubes. A very exciting project to work on and maybe will get one to the UK in time.
Also had the 688, 777 and 999 on the stand.

Many thanks for the link - good to see!
It was a pleasure to meet Giovanni and also here of more the RIB and other markets in Italy.
I have had fun in racing powerboats in Italy in the past and also sailed Formula 18 catamarans on Lake Como. Hopefully in the future I may get the chance to work with Italian clients as well!

Yesterday Giovanni told me to greet you ...
I am a member of the "club del gommone Milano" and they are always engaged in races on Lake Como.

J hope that the English style is really spread in Italy.
Unfortunately, now we have rib rich of sofas and armchairs lounges luxury
but a long way from the UK style with sharp bow and sporting aspect that I love

I think there could be more done to combine the two styles -try to offer the best of both without comprising performance too much. Not going to get quite the interior space of a Italian RIB with a UK RIB - but more could be done. Would be an interesting project.
One of the things that always interests me on my travels (work or holiday) is how boat designs evolve to suit there enviroment - be it weather, building materials and skills, fuel costs etc etc. Hence where we are I guess.

I guess the thing will be to make a really successful RIB that combines the different styles of hull and lay-out, but in a fairly light weight minimalstic kind of way.

A test photo - running a standard engine - and a 1/2 deck lay-out / test lay-out.
Just heard that the first raceboat, fitted with a 300XS Mercury, has tested today and gone really well - 71 Knots (82 mph) and handling great. Should have some photos next week.
Good to finish the week on a positive!

If you make it over to the UK, try to visit Cornwall. The Cornish lads would very much like to meet Francesca, and youself of course and we're very good at filling trailers.

real mph as reported to me!
The rough water testing they have done has gone very well - and all seem happy - actually happier with testing than I've known. But I need to go and test myself, although I will probably wait until the first leisure version is completed.
A couple more photos, one rough water and one more recent at speed.

All going well for the 888 in the Greek championships - now 4 wins out of 5 races.
Also plans going ahead for the leisure version and another race boat.

The 888 went on to win the 300hp class National Championships.
I'm going out to test the boat early next month and discuss other boats with Technohull, as I'm designing a new 12m RIB for them as well as a modifed 999 model.

A year after appearing as a bare boat and then being used as a raceboat the first leisure version is being shown at the Athens show

One more shot from the initial testing and all going well - but still much more set-up / propeller work to go yet.
