The Ice is Off! - And I am On!

... the water. Picked up a 8 year old Mercury 2 stroke the other day for my 40 year old zodiac and she flys! I've had it out a couple of time shis past week and here are a few pictures from this part of the world;

Guess which one is mine

Prairie Tuber,

Got any jobs going out their for RIB drivers. It looks absolutely beautiful where you live.

I spent some time in the area of Medicine Hat a long time ago and thought I was in paradise. I still remember chasing Buffalo across the Prairie and baiting Gophers.

Regards Nick R.

Definitely need to be careful with fires! Within the Manitoba's provincial parks (these pictures are along the border between Whiteshell & Nopiming Provincial Parks), all fires must be within established fire pits. Outside of the provincial parks open fires are allowed.

I'm working on it. Once I figure out how to spin a buck off my RIB/SIB addiction rather than spending all of my money on it, I'll let you in on the secret.

Medicine Hat is an interesting semi desert area on the western edge of the Canadian Prairies, whereas as Winnipeg is on the eastern edge of those prairies. East of here is the Lake country of the Canadian Shield, west of here are the flat prairies and gophers.

How flat are the prairies? - well you can watch your dog run away from home for 3 days, you cannot fall to your death & if you're sleepy & happen to drive off the road - no problem, you'll find another one!

In the Canadian Shield, you won't likely see gophers or bison, but you can expect to see marmots/groundhogs, chipmunks, loons, mergansers & bald eagles such as these which were at my campsite.

What you don't want to see at your campsite are black bears, wolverines or mosquitos (no avoiding the last one).

I also remember driving 30 miles to Medicine Hat every night. Halfway was a TV antenna with a little red light on it. My god did that tower talk a long time to get to. Yes the plains were very flat.

I was also told, all though I never saw it myself, that there was only one tree in hundreds of square miles on the plains near Medicine Hat.

One day a tank ran over it ..............................

I've been told that in southern Saskatchewan, there is a beautiful woman behind every tree! ...its just a matter of finding a tree.

Speaking of elusive beauty, I also forgot to post a picture of a turkey vulture I took on the same trip. Here is another loon picture which will hopefully work. Ocasionally I'll see a pileated woodpecker out there as well, (I took these woodpecker pictures alongside Winnipeg's Red River).

I got back on the water today about 80 km south of where I was last week. Believe it or not, I took a few more (actually quite a few more) pictures (love those digital cameras).
