The 5 day course costs the RNLI around £2000 per person to run.

Will be by water to Poole/Weymouth - then trailer home. Just waiting for stitches to come out of my hand and the right weather and I will be gone!!!

Couldnt agree more, and If its in the back of your mind then your more likely
to air on the side of caution, thats why I allways.carry handheld and portable
gps on me as back up. or go out in a group.

Jono,

The picture of D-487 along side, is that Rob Hanson off West Kirby Lifeboat kneeling in the front?

Were they not training in the new ILB? College looks brilliant, i bet the electric start engine makes the restart procedure a lot more simpler (and less effort) than the old pull start after a capsize!!

When I was at the collage in November the collage were still awaiting their IB1's!! so all training was still conducted in the old D-Classes (EA16's)

They were trying to get hold on one so that the crew's which have the IB1's can train in them....

I would have thought the training college would have been the first place to get the new IB1! They are similar but at the same time so different..how can you train people with the use of the built in GPS etc when the old one doesn't have one.

And at £2000 a go, thats a lot of money to learn how to use a boat that when you get back on station you won't be using!

The IB1's have been around for a little while now as well!
