"thunderboat" Rescue boat

Had a good but long 3 days covering the annual boat races in San Diego.
10 hours each day on the water in the hot sun.Nearly baked
We had 4 rescue boats, each with a diver and paramedic stationed inside the course. Luckily very few accidents and the two that did occured at the other end of the course. So didn't have to deploy my diver but stood by on several close calls.
They ran a variety of boats ,witht he unlimiteds being the highlight of the day. More like F16s than boats !
It amazed me the huge wall of water these things threw up when at top speed. I got a few photos, but could only shoot when they were slowing up as quick response was our first concern during the actual races.
The only major incident involved a flip at high speed in the unlimited lite class and the driver ended up unconscious face down in the water.
Glad to say the other RIB recovered him and got him over to lifeflight who medivac'd him and is doing well.
cheers Dal

Hi Darrall

So it's official then...you don't do any real work! But seriously, looks like a great event and the photos are excellent! But what's with your Mexican style hat in the first pic? Are you planning to stray into Mexican waters and pass as one of the locals!

Ju and Mike

Well you know my delicate english skin not used to being baked for 80' for 10 hours!! Was coming out medium rare;hence the hat.
Covers the neck well until the actual race and then changed for the regulation baseball cap.
I know it looked "dorky" but worked well. Plus all the lifeguards here wear them ; (so you never watched Baywatch!!!) Ok dont answer that.
cheers Dal
