Ah, Norway...
Lovely pics, extremely envious of your location!
We went to Norway for my 40th and took the Hurtigruten from Bergen to Tromso - absolutely the best experience of our lives, ever! Norway rocks!
Got a couple of vids on youtube for anyone interested....
As usual, Mrs MikeP makes an appearance here and there....
To digress slightly, in the second vid, there's a bit about 3 and a half minutes in where we are stood at the front of the ship in a slightly rolling sea and the prow goes diving down into a wave. You can hear a big CLUNK noise (no idea what that was, maybe the captain dropped his tea mug...)
Anyway, that was our first day onboard the Hurtigruten, and I strongly suspect that the bridge crew, upon seeing a bunch of tourists crowding around the prow area oohing and ahhing at the scenery, decided that a little impromptu splash might be a bit of fun. Well, it was - I went down like a sack of spuds as the ship hit the bottom of the wave.... unfortunately using my ass to destroy the 18-55mm lens on the SLR which was slung over my shoulder at the time.
Now you can't visit Norway without a wide angle lens on your camera, so when we got to Alesund, I managed to find a camera shop that was able to sell me the most expensive lens I have ever bought in my life. Lovely people, very helpful.
Got some fantastic shots with it, though, so take this not as a complaint, but more as a warning if you should find yourself at the prow of the Hurtigruten on the first day of a trip north in a rolling sea with an SLR slung over your shoulder.
Well, you never know ..... :-)
PS, whilst I'm fully taking a trip down off-topic alley, we had a tour of the Hurtigruten bridge. Now, I don't know what I was expecting really - a white-whiskered, salty old sea dog grappling the wheel with a big brass compass and an almanac, perhaps ? Or a smartly turned out captain issuing clipped commands to a crack crew with one of those throttle things that goes 'ding ding' every time you move it to a new setting....
But no. A bored looking bloke sat in a big comfy recliner on a swivel, coffee cup in one hand, magazine in the other, with a massive flat panel in front of him showing the current position via GPS and our course as a yellow dotted line. It's all autopilot, of course!
I felt vaguely let down. There wasn't even a parrot.

I have to agree. We have made at least two trips to Orkney each year for many years and would love to live there but one trip some years ago to Shetland was enough. Never been back...........

Hi you must be very pleased with your rib it looks absolutely stunning. The video was first class and brought back fond memories of my visit to Bergen many years ago beautiful country. You make me very jealous as your cruise looked to have everything. many happy years with your 'baby'

I love that the guys with the kind of boats that I dream about still have something to dream about! It's kind of cool but worrying at the same time: - no boat, you think 4m is plenty; 4m, you start fantasising about 6.5m; and so on and on ....

On the same basis, having had an SR 5.4 and moved up to a 6.3, I often wish I had an SR4 when it's calm just to blat around in. Never been in one but imagine take off and agility to be awesome. If it's as different as the 5.4 to 6.3 the other way, miles more smiles per pound! probably like a jet ski, but dry!?

Very impressive boat, beautiful pictures and video! Saw some photos of Trondheim on google earth - what a beautiful city! Nice to see some trip reports where substantial distances are travelled.

I think it's only natural and also healthy to have something to dream about and work towards.
I've been boating almost all my life. Owned a few smaller boats. After seeing a Goldfish 29 a few years ago, decided that THAT was the boat I wanted. Been working my ass off after that to be able to buy one. Now that I own one, I've actually started looking at other boats. Going to enjoy my 29 for a long time to come, but having something new to dream about/work towards is nice
