Tornado 4.8m Refurb
I am starting to refurb my Tornado over the winter. Extra seats, paint the hull and deck white, new electrical system, more instruments etc. Managed to make a start this week. I had it re-tubed in 2001 and always thought it looked a bit odd with blue tubes, orange deck grey hull etc.
Just for those that are interested I will post the progress and pictures on here.

Yup - nice and bright - mates said I was mad to get a blue RIB - wouldn't stand out enough at sea and yet even some orange RIBs look dull next to mine.

yep put it on with varnish rollers not foam ones they disintigrate and leave foam in your finish.
put a coat on then go back after 10 mins and go over again to get a better finish. when it drys its quite flat but just lightly sand back then polish up! good luck

Had enough of the weather so managed to get it in the garage so it properly dried off. Bit of a squeeze and had to evict one of my bikes to the garden, still needs must and all that. Found a little bit of nastiness on the hull but nothing too bad just going at it with filler and lots of sand paper now, this may take a while me thinks.....

Jizm... Do you plan on removing the tubes prior to painting, or will you just mask them off? Is there any chance the epoxy paint might damage the tubes?

I thought about removing the tubes but decided against it, going to mask them off. I don't know if the paint would damage them but layup resin does unless you get it off quick!

How old was the boat when you had it re-tubed? Were the original tubes polyurethane?

The boat was about 10 or 12 years old and the old tubes were PU. Everytime you fixed a leak, another sprung up somewhere else. I gave up in the end and had it re-tubed in 2001 with Hypalon.
