Ha Ha.Nice boat. I could see in your eyes last week that you had caught the addiction but I didnt expect you to satisfy your craving so soon. What are you going to call it then? Bearing in mind your profession, I would have thought something like 'Jack the Ripper' or 'First Cut' would be suitable.

Thank you all for being so encouraging. I can honestly say that RIBsters are in a class of their own when it comes to togetherness and mutual support .... long may it continue.

By the way David, the boat is presently named DeeTox (being from the river there but I can't keep the name as it might deter prospective RIBsters from meeting with us

Can't agree with that statement enough. I've been treated wonderfully by RIBsters, cheers lads.

Seems Tornado's are quite popular for diving, my current club's old RIB was a Tornado, not sure about the new boat though, but that one's out of action at the moment anyway, some b*stard half inched the trailer the other weekend.

Ribbing for divers is simple enough. Make the ride as comfortable as possible (the "boat handlers" in my club don't seem to understand this principle) instead of just pushing the lever as far forward as it'll go. When you're diving the RIB isn't there for arsing about with, it's just a bus basically. Get to the wreck or reef or whatever, drop the anchor in the right place, and wait. Then help 'em back into the boat by taking the cylinders and weight belts off 'em, makes life a lot easier when they have to climb back in. Then get back to the beach or marina in a comfortable way, and keep a good lookout! We all nearly ended up in the water again with all the kit overboard when the cox decided to let someone have a go at driving the boat for the first time. He didn't see the 2 seals infront of us until the last minute. Full lock with no warning, not fun!

You planning on turning up for more of the NW RIBsters events? If so I'll hopefully see you at the next one! I suggest Aberystwyth for the next venue! I happen to know a hotel with a car park adequate for a couple of RIBs, and there's a nice little bar with a very friendly, helpful barman...

This RIB was made in RNLI location on Isle of Wight. Tubes are coming from Avon, as I know. I've been there 2 years ago and people from RNLI let me see all places (where the hulls are made, tubes and self-righting systems are fitted and tested, engines prepared and repaired etc.) in their location. The trip for everybody interested in RIBs!

PS. Note the end of the tube! It's curved upwards to improve handling of the RIB!

With regard to the Stavros Niarchos tall ship shown above, this had been chartered from the Sail Training Association by Merseyside Police who took 45 young people from the Wirral on a 10 day voyage as a reward for good citizenship, full details on:
