US Customs RIB

Spotted on the Potamac River, on my holiday to Washington DC last month. Anyone care to guess as to make? (Also a good excuse to see if I can upload pictures!)

Upon closer inspection, I do believe the bow is slightly squared off, and I remember some time back in an article in RI about a pretty awesome yellow RIB made for the US Navy called a 'Nautica' .
So that's my guess - Nautica Ribs

Mike C, do you actually know what it is, or are you relying on us to tell you?

Everytime I see a RIB in this country I say to my wife that it's a Delta or a Ribcraft ar a Humber or whatever. She says I'm a RIB anorak! I now think we all are!

Charles, No I havn't got a clue as to what the make is. It was right across the river from me, but I was just pleased to see a RIB in the US. They seemed more bothered about a pile of helicopters flying around at the time. (I think George double-ya was on his way home!)

Still, it made us all think!

Most likely a Zodiac...

If you look in the ribnet boats for sale there is a Zodiac for sale... just a different console layout. I'd say the Coast Guard has 90% Zodiacs. The US Navy seems to have a few different Ribs than Zodiac, but still the majority are Zodiacs.
This week just south of Miami a boat full of Hiatians made it too shore, and the news showed quite alot of footage of the Coast Guard responding to landing. I saw nothing but Zodiacs, but I did notice a few with the hard foam sponsons, which also looked to be Zodiacs.

Mmmmm, yes, could be either. The Nautica does look likely, but come to think of it, it could have been US Coastguard, not customs!

My wife says that when we get too old to go out in RIBS, we'll all be sitting on a pontoon somewhere in a folding chair with a thermos flask of coffee and a packed lunch, jotting down SSR numbers.

Nonsense obviously. Anyway, must go. My prop needs a polish!

PS. If you want to see some REAL anoraks, go to http://www.offshore-radio.de/ and click on the forts!
