Ventnor today

For those who have not yet had the chance to visit Ventnor I highly recommend a trip there. The small harbour could probably accomodate a small fleet of the ribs. You have to moor up to the bouys and the harbour master will taxi you to the shore. The only downside the charge is £2.00/mtr . A rip off .

We had an enjoyable lunch at the Spy Glass Inn sitting out in the sun with splendid sea views

Here are a few shots of the harbour. Lynx & Seahawk IV can be seen moored up to the floating bouys

Hi Andre,

Keep meaning to visit Ventnor but never seem to get round to it. Does the landing fee include the water taxi ?

Also fuel is a bit lacking.

Was talking to a local last year who said the harbour is a white elephant (Might be a good place to stop in a storm though) as the place gets full of very thick algae during the warm weather and costs a fortune to clear.

One day though I'll get there. From what I've seen of it when sat offshore it looks like a seaside town from the 19th Century.

NR.

No wonder the harbour looks empty.

Mrs Nasher and I stayed in a small hotel right behind the new harbour for a couple of nights in November last year during a period of bad weather.
We went over on the ferry by the way.
Watching the waves roll in and throw the moored up boats around was not a good thing to watch, and the slipway has already been blocked off by building on top of it
The Hotel owner was less than impressed, having watched it being built and then repaired every few months as it falls to pieces. He also did not know why the slip had been blocked off with the pillers holding up the new building at street level.

Ventnor is lovely though, and The Spyglass Inn's sausage casserole is one of the best meals I've ever tasted.

Yes landing fee is included and if you were to moor up on one of the outside bouys then only £1.50/mtr but £1.00/ each way per person for the water taxi - another rip off

we did not pay the full lot cos the nice harbour master charged us each for a 4 mtr rib. so if you go there be nice to Mr Harbour Master

The slipway is not really blocked off cos when you launch you have to reverse under the building and then come forward once the trailer has been towed out. I guess OK for a small rib

Enjoyed seeing those photos Andre. Ventnor is a charming. Something about the tropics in the air and a definite harkback to Victoriana.
