Weekend in Lagos Portugal

Had a fab weekend with Mrs A in Lagos, Portugal. We stayed at the Marina Rio hotel which is just opposite the Lagos Marina. This was our first trip to Portugal. I had a meeting set up with our new dealer for Portugal Bluewater Algarve and also just had to see first hand how the two Parker 900 Baltic SeaSafari ribs were doing. The one known as Prince of Whales was in for the pre season engine service so we took a trip on the Lord of Dolphins

super weather on Sunday just right for dolphin watching. we booked a 1 1/2 hour trip which took us 20 Nm away. Some 60 minutes after leaving the marina we found a pod of dolphins - maybe they found us who knows. All in all the trip lasted 2 hours and was superb. The crew were great with lots on marine life information to share. here are a few photos and when I get round to editing my GoPro footage I will post a link to You Tube

and a few more

the fishing rope which you can see on the deck on photo 2 was fished out of the sea by the crew. We can all imagine what harm that can do to any mammal if it gets caught in it. Job well done

a good safety brief by the lady who also proved to be a very good rib driver

Lagos Marina RIB

Hi Andre. I keep a RIB there. A Zar 57 with a 150HP Suzuki. Give me a shout the next time you are there. There are loads of secret beaches and small villages/towns that you can visit in an hour on a RIB. It's a great place to keep a RIB. Water is very warm for swimming from say May/June to November.

Hi William,

Good to know many thanks. I did see a ZAR in the marina as you come in on the right so she must be yours. Take my word see was there waiting for you.

There are many seasafari ribs in Lagos Marina but not as big as the Parker. With a large beam rib one was allowed to get off the seat at rest and get close and personal just about to the Dolphins

Here are some photos of the other ribs so when in Lagos look up the Parker with Sealife

the red seats on the first rib look very hard and uncomfortable

RIBase
Nice part of the world. I'm there in a couple of weeks time. The local boats take you in and out of the sea caves. Nice to chill on the harbour area and just people watch.

we wanted to go on one of them boats to see the sea caves but ran out of time. Something to do the next time. You are correct in saying the harbour area is a good place to chill out. Some much is happening there . The coffee is great as well

Nice part of the world indeed. Have been the last 3 years to the Cascade resort up on the clifftop near the lighthouse. Great spot. Lagos old town is really nice. We have done a bareboat charter from the guys in the Marina, we didnt do it last year, but previous years we had Brig's from them, reasonably priced considering it was July/August. Some nice spots as you head down towards Sagres, though the further you go the colder the water gets. With regards swimming, the water is colder in that part of portugal (towards Sagres) than it is in the South coast UK in the Summer. The further along the coast you go away from Sagres and towards Faro the warmer the sea is. All in all a wonderful part of the world and great to explore on a RIB.
