Working on the Rigs
A guy on a photography forum I used to moderate works on the Oil rigs and is a cracking photographer. I've asked him if he would mind if I showed you them here and he agreed.

I worked on the last one for about 8 months (The Bruce).
Your mate must work on the boats does he?
Cracking photos!
Neither of these are my work:

I nearly applied for a job on Bruce via Petrofac, they took ages to phone back and quoted the date as I made contact with them as my date of birth saying "so how old are you?" They also did not seem to understand what a maintenance planner did. I didnt take much more interest in Petrofac after that.

It was Wood Group who were on the Bruce, obviously been kicked off. Atlantic Resourcing who are Petrofacs agency have been fine to work for in the past, always seemed to have plenty of work.

What do two yellow stripes on the side of a vessel mean, because I notice the supply vessels for rigs have them, but so do the pilot vessels (?) in Southampton Water, are they just a marking of an industrial workboat?

Think its just because they had some yellow paint left over.
Not sure if all the "Viking" boats have these markings. The standby boat we had in Morecambe Bay had a Acid House smiley to drop containers onto, it was a big yellow circle until the lads got bored!

I think I've seen that boat. It was there when the dredger sank at Heysham ( BBC NEWS LINK )
Not sure how that thing sank, it's owned by one of the biggest dredging companies in the UK and had just finished Fleetwood dock. In fact you can just see it on the left of this fisheye photo.

A few more from Terry Cavner Photography.
Quote from Terry
Pic 1
"the rolling seas and the Janice Alpha Platform...weather stopped play for 24 hours...which has probably destined us to Christmas out here...we have 24 hours of diving left...a steam in to Aberdeen,Leith or Newcastle.. approx 20 hours pick up a spool....20 hours back ...fit and test it ...then home"
Pic 2
"A look at todays weather conditions in The North Sea...we are currently out of limits for diving...we are chomping at the bit in bitterly cold conditions...we have approx 12 hours of diving left...we need to transit to Aberdeen...if the port is open...maybe Leith or even Newcastle steam back out and fit the pipework...all before Christmas....fingers crossed"

Took these out in Malaysia earlier this year, Murphy (the oil company) didn't like paying for choppers so we were still using Billy Pugh's.
