Sickening I know, but might do you a favour in the log run as it’s presumably more likely to be a total loss and get you back on the water quicker.
Bring back keel hauling!

dumped and slashed rib
They thought slashing it would make it sink, It probably washed back onshore they do it get rid of the evidence copying the scum that take sports fishing boats etc from Europe and Florida and sink them after taking the engines, if it's professional thieves (most likely) your engine will almost certainly go to Spain, Eastern Europe or Africa. Fit a DIY tracker in the new engine you will need an internal battery pack though disguised as a CDI unit to power the tracker when they disconnect the main external 12v in, I've done a couple of them for new 150hp engines. Easy to do, all on youtube you may need a few extra 12v external batteries to keep the tracker while moored if you don't use the boat at least every 7-10 days, if you know what your doing you can fit a big battery pack up the leg that will run the tracker for a week or 2

theft
thanks guys for your kind messages that go a long way towards the hurt and loss.
where she was berthed told me today
"YOUR RIB HAS BEEN REPORTED DUMPED ON GRASS BANK NEAR BEACH.
YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY YOUR MOORING FEES TILL THE END OF SEASON THOUGH"
the nice caring folk of mersea island...
im told the boat was taken to wladegrave holiday park on back of a pick up, driven along the beach then they drove up a grassed area to dump my boat ????
why the damage ?
cut through the tanks.as well as engine cables, even cut off the radio mic. yanked throttle off mounting
A frame gone as well as seat backs.
wrecked stroage locker covers.
WHY ?

dumped and slashed rib
That's not professionals, your gear was took for their rib, C*!~$
Do keep a search alert on though for your engine and also A frame they might end up listing it, also keep a search on for new listed ribs, you might see theirs put on with your engine, seats and A frame

If the insurance write it off, it might be worth trying to buy it back as salvage value & having it re-engined & retubed. You'll probably end up with change.

and of course if we charge anyone else to use the mooring in your absence we will share the takings with you - not!

dumped and slashed rib
Put the RIB there for storage, insurance will be reluctant to recover it out the water so your more likely to get the buy back option it's your berth put your boat there! (Tarped over)

That is unbelievable ,sorry to see this whole affair ,i reckon they slashed the tubes and took the seat backs off to get it in a pickup with a back on ,before they dumped it, i also reckon thats a good idea about putting it on the mooring for the insurance to look at ,
secondly if you want a run out of levington this week as a bit of therapy ,the offer is there,i hav,nt got the highfield anymore but the nautica is ready to go

I think their plan was to sink it but that changed for some reason. DIY tracker and monitor via a phone app and/or google maps, does give peace of mind when leaving the boat unattended in a remote or doggy looking area unplanned! Even a spare iphone fully charged stashed in the boat or under the hood with find my iphone app will work for 1-2 days!

theft
just a update on this
the rib was on a mooring in front of the yacht club, approx 200 yards off.
it was surrounded by various other boats including lots of ribs. lots of traffic also.so no dodgy areas.
i considered a tracker some time ago but was soon advised the "chaps" can quicky scan for this and probably did their homework before moving the boat.
they can also block im told.
thankyou all for your kind words of advice and help.
if they fancy it they will have it.
i have heard that another boat went missing or was "moved" about the same time an area as mine and today am told one went missing w.end just gone.
so wonderful MERSEA ISLAND watch out.
if its any help at all they are using a silver coloured pick up truck.

God that's bl**dy awful. I can only hope karma makes an unexpected visit to them.
Forget about it, let the insurance company get on with it, and start planning to get on the water again. Would definitely investigate a tracker for the new outboard.

Crui05 gutted to read this and your theft thread as someone who has many enjoyable days out from Mersea and intended to look out for your distinctive colour RIB the next time we set out from the pontoon for Brightlingsea.
In many ways it is far more distressing to find it damaged than just have it disappear.
In my Fowey thread I've said I have mentally prepared myself that there's a chance of having my outfit stolen from its mooring... but I'm sure if it wasn't there tomorrow am I'd have to work a bit to just accept it and get another when we are home..

i am told there are other boats going missing so beware.
there is no real deterrent for these guys. chopping of hands would put them off then dump at sea so as no cost to the health service would put some off.
