2nd Inaugural RIBnet Conference

Following the sucess of the 1st Inaugural RIBnet Conference (see here http://rib.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1418) and with 2004 approaching a few people have started muttering. As well as muttering some people have mentioned that the 2nd Inaugural RIBnet Conference - 2004 should start taking shape.

To give Charles and Brian a break Ageing Youth and myself have voluntered to organise it.

The way i see it we need to 'discuss':

1) Location
2) Rough time of year
3) Specific dates

Then a dictortatorship decision will be taken by Kevin and Myself, hopefully, to follow the majority.

First suggestions are:

Solent area
Late spring / Early summer
Mopre specificaly the 4/5/6 June - RIBex weekend (see here http://www.ribexhibitions.co.uk/)

A quick tip Kevin and Daniel.
Stick your peg in the ground and get everyone to work around your dates. As many people as there are on this forum, is as many opinions you will get.
I believe there will be a 'healthy' contingent of people going to RIBEX 2004 - so, it would be logical to all meet up at Cowes and blast around the Solent with our RibNet burgees proudly flying from the A-frames.

Hey, i've done my side of the organising, it's all over to Kevin now

Seriously, i like the way you set a date last year - good method of organising, lets just give it a few days for any other serious suggestion to come through... there might me some other more suitable date or location i hav'nt thought of.

Okay folks I'm up for it, but how about the 3rd one being somewhere other than the SOUTH RUDDY COAST?

Now Keith, you know the answer already don't you? Organise it yourself

Judging by the turnout for the Second Inaugural (what do you mean you couldn't get there?) RIBnet Conference in Kirwkwall, dahn sarf is possibly a good bet. There do seem to be quite a lot of interim conferences being organised in North Wales though

Can't let that one go Keith... actually most of the population does. And if you filter the sample to the boat-owning population, I'm sure that the percentage would rise further still.

Anyway, Solent must actually be closer to Birmingham than the Pentland Firth - by several hundred miles!

I would like to se the date being around the same time as Ribex. This way I could join both at the same time.

Stop howling about towing the boat.

If you can put these events at the same time and place, I'm bringing my boat from Copenhagen.

Meeting

My opinion is that we should combine the 2 events as well, We could all meet up at the show and then cruise somewhere in the afternoon for a get together etc, maybe to Weymouth / Dartmouth etc.

There are no conferences being organised in North Wales, just great fun days and weekends out. This is what it's all about isn't it?
Charles has it spot on. If you are arranging the event, set the dates. People will fit in with the dates if they want to, especially if you are planning for next year at this stage it gives everyone time to sort themselves out.
I'm sure the North West could put on a good do for 2004 if RIBnet would get the support from southern visitors.

Keith, are you up for it, could arrange a sib crossing of St. Tud's East to St. Tud's West .......... and back!!!

Having noted your accuracy with dates, when did you say you'd booked those plane seats for?

And I think St. Tuds would be a bit too tame for Keith. We ought to send him up the Devils Tail and meet him when he pops out the other end.

It's very good of you to offer to organise the 3rd Ribnet (not Inaugural) conference 2005 in Abersoch. Top man.

Thanks for that DM. I was confused by the '2nd inaugral' as I thought only the first could be, but hey!
The flights were yesterday! I waited but couldn't delay the flight, sorry.

If enough folk and ribs want to come to N.Wales for the 3rd I'll arrange it no prob's. Just need JK to ok it and enough people to advise they'd come along.
No reason why it shouldn't move around the country year on year.

Aging Youth / Daniel

You have my support, guys . I am sure you will do a great job.

Dates : 4/5/6 June at the time of RIBEX 2004

Location: Cowes or perhaps Yarmouth to get away from the RIBEX crowd

It's 5 to 6hrs drive time from here to Southampton, so I'm not sure whether I'll make this one - most of that journey time is just literally getting out of Wales which takes an age, even when not towing!!

If there's anything going on up North (not North Scotland ) though, I should easily be able to make that from next year I would hope (decent towing vehicle now )

Hi All,

Well my thanks to Daniel for offering his assistance Charles point noted, thank you.

"It's 5 to 6hrs drive time from here to Southampton, no excuses this will be a minimum 3 day event, Friday to Sunday".

I spent 5 hours plus, last time travelling to plymouth.

I think that the concensus of opinion is to join in with the Ribex event (assuming it goes ahead). So the date is set 4/5/6 June 04.

As for the venue, I think there are 2 options:
1 Stay in Cowes. 2 Stay in Yarmouth.

I will start looking at Hotels & B&B's in the two towns to see if we can get a good deal. I will try and keep the costs down but I expect Cowes to be dearer than Yarmouth.

I know it is a long way off but hopefully with a bit of forward planning we could make next years event even bigger than Plymouth.

Best wishes

Goodonya Kevin, as any self-respecting Aussie would say.
Bear in mind that Rib Int have already negotiated good deals with a number of establishments in Cowes so we could join that 'band-wagon' - Me, I'll sleep in my rib cause I can

This exhibition that JK is discussing, lets say it was in Southampton, where there is lot's of places to stay wouldn't that be better for the Ribnet conference ?

Call me old fashioned but I think we should make every effort to support a commercial venture that supports our free website

I know i should stick to repeating Jokes but the point I am trying to make is why don't we see what the options are.

I'll go to Ribex anyway and I'll go to the conference, it's just if this other show comes off it definitely needs our support.
