A Late One?

Any probs if I tag along?
Seems that I have got a pass out after all
As I shall be plopping in at Lymington (assuming that I can get through all the yachties at the slip) might well come over in just shorts and tee shirt Survival bag anyone
Suspect I might be one of the first to arrive.................

Oops, i meant to say 11:15, which coincidentally is exactly what Paul was thinking. We could then meet you a bit mre centrally Andy around that time.

Paul - I'll be leaving Drivers about the same time I hope, so should see you then, or latest at Calshot Spit.

Have a great day out everyone. Unfortunately I am between RIB's at the moment andotherwise engaged, so will join you later in the season. I am encouraging the new owner of Ermintrude to get involved on Ribnet and will be based out of Christchurch.

Sitting in front of the computer drinking Tea and eating my lunch at home and not spicey Nachos. Not the way I thought today would turn out

Nice to meet up with a few of you today. Unfortunately I had to turn back halfway though my cruise to Yarmouth with mechanical/electrical/hydraulic problems. I did meet the Southampton gang, before deciding that it was too risky continuing onwards.

Hope you all had a great day.

Another great Nacho Run ! A little lumpy for my shallow V small boat - and a few interesting (read WET) moments at Hurst !

A much easier run back at 25 ish knts . I have some video I will try & edit down shortly.

Shame you didn't make it Andy - but a wise decision if all sorts of stuff was playing up.

Hope everyone got back OK .

Pete

Andy,
Any news on your probs? Nothing catastrophic I hope?
I think that most people had a good time, I certainly enjoyed the gathering. It was good to meet some 'old faces' and some new ones. I hope that the journey home went well for all. Thanks for organising the day David.

I hope everyone got home OK. It was good to meet you all today on my first run out with Ribnet members. It was nice to get the feel of the Redbay with the sea being just right for the day not too still and not too rough. It did look like the Christchurch lads got a bit wet on the trip home.

But enjoyed the day Im now looking for the next trip out.

Great trip out today, Thanks to Avocet for organising.

Andy, wise decision turning back, any ideas on the cause? Not too big an issue I hope.

Ian - the finished product looks great - happy boating in 2010

Why do things come in 3's

Getting home at 13:00hrs meant that I was able to strip off the lower portside leg cowling and see what was going on in there. As noticed on the slip a stainless jubilee clip had failed though fatigue (3 separate pieces). It was from a hose about 1.25" diameter that joined a Y shaped manifold that seems to be a one way valve assembly Incorporated into it. The hose was completely off but was being pushed onto the manifold by the flex in the hose (see photo). As far as I can see this was on the outlet side of the cooling system as it was hot water that was coming from the break. The whole engine had got a good soaking in hot Sea Water.

Just before this happened and I mean like 2 Min's, my seat back rest broke away from the bracket on one side and after my decision to turn around and come back home it came away completely.

The third item to break was when I was putting Venom to bed. I undid the VHF antenna to fold it up and the whole aerial broke into pieces.

So there's a bit of work to do before my next trip. I'll keep smiling

Video now edited down

As always hard to take pics so set the camera to video from the top of the screen. Alas it stopped automatically after 30 mins so missed the (WET) trip through Hurst on way to the Island. Simon ( the crew/ ballast may have more on his camera).

Roughish on the way out of the harbour and to Yarmouth( for a 4m RIB!)

Calm and very calm on the way back - but getting rougher (for a 4m RIB!)

Getting wet on the way in the harbour ! Oh and I switched the engine off again by accident on the way in the harbour( lots of spray followed by not much movement ......- same as on way through Hurst ! ) Spray picture attached.

Sorry you were only with us for a few minutes.
I doubt it.

Every time I push the hose onto the manifold (tail end) it comes off because of a sideways pressure and unnatural way these three hoses come together. I guess that either it's this that exerts a pressure in such a way as to make the jubilee clip fail or perhaps it wasn't actually put on properly in the first place.

It was a great day out and good to meet up with old and new friends.

Glad everyone made it back safely, although I'm sorry that Andy couldn't make it all the way. Andy: things happen in threes and you've had your three, so it can only get better!

Sorry there were no group photos (too much talk and not enough thought) but there's a video by Scurvey Crew here:

And here's a few that Scurvey Crew took on the way back:

Brilliant footage of Blackroady! I bet Pete and crew will be feeling a little buised in the morning

I guess even though I had a few things let go, I still must have had Lady Luck on my side, as I did get home OK (I even enjoyed the rough stuff too) as the hose could have come off all together

Next time perhaps
