30th July, trip to Needles,BBQ on beach Alum or Scratchels Bay
Sunday 30th July is free for us and we want to investigate alum bay, do a bbq on the beach, visit the needles, and build sandcastles. Might launch from calshot so could use that as a meeting point at 9.30 leaving at 10 am and trek on down.

Sounds good to me - although it's repairs dependant I'm afraid!
Would allow some watersports etc too.
I have the sat, Sun, Mon and Tuesday off, so was planning on doing something. Maybe do a south coast exploration if I'm not carrying out repairs!
Will confirm nearer the time!

I reckon I'll be up for that, although...
If its as nice as this weekend just gone, I would recommend scratchells bay, round the other side. Went round there yesterday and it was very nice! It'll be much quieter than alum and its much more impressive! I would say its very dependent on wind direction, and if there is a swell it could be tricky getting ashore.
see how it pans out...

I'm interested, subject to management approval.
Colwell Bay is lovely too, but perhaps a little small for 10-15 RIBs.
I've posted a few pictures at http://www.solentribster.com/gpage4.html

cheers guys for the suggestions, perhaps we could visit all 3 and some others, sus out mooring etc and then bbq at the best venue for the numbers of people and conditions, Not sure how many will turn up for this trip but depending on numbers might indicate which is the best beach to stay at.
Basically what i want to achieve is sus out some new beachs and best places to moor up for future visits and get some time around the needles and let the kids play on the beach and have a nice bbq.
a bit of a beech hop theme might be good to allow folks to explore the options of places to stop as not many folks i have chatted to have been to the various beachs....could be good.

ok looks like we have a nice group of boats, I will launch at calshot for the day i think so will get there for around 9 am , shall we all just meet at calshot and be ready to leave on our way for 10 am, if others want to meet on the way or nearer the needles then let us know where and we can call in on the way....breaks the journey up a bit
my preference is bbq on the beach somewhere so the kids can play so if you are ok with that then bring suitable stuff
a few of us had some probs with our disposable bbqs last time and i think i have sussed a few hints
read the instructions.....
place on something so off the ground so air can get in underneath
ensure the little slits in the bottom foil are open enough to let air in properly
will bring our dome bbq this time i think so we are assured it will work!!
weather for then is still not clear so lets check on it as time gets closer to see if it still looks ok for everyone
these are fab to have

we got this one

problem was we had varying degrees of success with our disposable bbqs from one roaring away (was the posh one with its own stand), another reasonalbe, another very slow burning (ours) and another almost dead (crackers)
if others have used those disposable bbqs the hint may help get the sausages burnt a bit quicker
hows the song go" when will we see you again"

tis not a bad idea, wonder which boat we should try it on, personally a hard boat might be a better option

Where was everybody? I got to Calshot around 10:10, but could not see anyone. Still we had a great BBQ in the rain, then blasted over to the Needles (once it had cleared).

its next weekend
That thunderstorm was wicked wasn't it? One of the folk boats off the yacht club in yarmouth got struck by lightning...snapped the back stay.
