It was not a massive job to be honest, there is only an engine and bilge connected now. i replaced the odd length of wiring but i am 100% sure it was the right amp/volt and on the right terminal.
Could a flat battery cause a grinding sound within the starter?
I did use a hammer and re form the "O" type connectors that go onto the battery, also when connecting the bilge back up i wired it straight into positive bypassing the on/offswitch on the top of the battery, there were a few sparks which could explain a flat battery although the bilge still works fine?
not sure how much power the engine draws but the battery barely shocked me so i can only presume the battery is not as charged as it should be?

think i've solved the problem, got the engine to turn over once connecting the engine wires straight to the battery. however the negative point on the battery has had it, simply touched the wire and half the negative point came off with it! i guess it's going to be a new battery... could explain why not enough current was getting to the starter motor as well.

Hammers on batterys will do that .....
A swift trip to halfords I am sure will find a cheap enough replacement as its only a small(ish) motor to turn over. Get that done by Sunday and all is good for a run to Yarmouth and if breaks/stops working for any reason when out then pleanty of help and support around too !

Hi David
It looks like my +? is just TrevorG + 1.
For others leaving from Southampton or who want to meet up off Cowes, I'm aiming to leave SDS at about 11.00 so should be out of the Itchen speed restriction by 11.30 and off down Southamption Water.

So: taking PMs into account and ignoring the ??s and 250kts (who hasn't indicated where his boat is), I make that 22 people. Correct me if otherwise.
From Poole (suggest leaving Parkstone Bay Marina 11.30):
Avocet and Mrs A
Oscarguitar + 2
Longjohn? + ?
From Christchurch (Poole boats will be passing just before midday):
Mudbug? + 3?
From Lymington (via The Needles) (leaving 10.00):
Whisper and Mrs W
PeterM + 1
Ian M + 1/2/3?
Nathan K + 2 (understand that all's working well now )
From Southampton (leaving 11.15?)
Neil Harvey + 1
TrevorG + 1
Mark241 + 2
From Wootton Creek
adrian c +1
As mentioned before: suggest that we use CH72 and if anyone who hasn't got it wants my mobile number PM me. See you Sunday (for which the weather looks good!)
David

Same, just +1. They didn't fancy sitting on the tubes in the end. It was probably a good idea considering my driving...

Hi all,
Good to meet you today, great day out and v lucky with the weather. Big thanks to David for organising it all.
I did take some video but quality is pretty poor. I'll try and post it later this week. Hope some of you are in this picture.
