7th March Knott End.

Hi folks

A trip has been taked about for the 28th Feb, however this is on a very low tied 6.6M, and a very early start.

I would suggest the following week 7th March.

Tide is 9.5M at 11.30. This would allow to lauch and be away for 10.00am, giving a good 5 hours and still recovering at 15.00 still in daylight.

Depending on weather I suggest a trip down the shore at Blackpool, to say south shore or Gut Buoy then across to Piel Island for a pie & pint, (45 miles ish).

If weather is great (we can hope) we could come back via the gas fields (72 miles ish). if weather is S**T we could go stright to Piel Island (28 miles ish) or if that bad launch at Stanna and play in the surf round wire light.

So who on for it, plan to lauch at Knott End be in the water & ready for 10.00 and decide on the day based on weather and RIBs how far a field we go.

Regards Gary

Gary, if there's room on a rib for me and Deb's, please book us in. Sounds like there's plenty to do in the area whatever the weather.

Barry, what modifications have you made to your Searider? Have you put a Flybridge on it?

I've seen this in a yachtie mag but can't find it - if the weather's good, how far is it from IoM over?

Hi folks

Ian

Yes their is room on my RIB, if wife & kids come we have seats for another 2, if not their is seats for 5 more.

Barry saw your, "foredeck accomodation" last time, take it you rent it out if people need to test out their waterproofs

Will get a lat long for piel but of you find barrow, then Walnsey Island Piel is on the channel between Walsney Island & Barrow.

Will post lat long, distance guess at 45 miles ish confirm tonight when I get to a chart.

Good place, good anchorage, sheldered, water taxi, jetty, pub, food, castle, toilets, showers what more can you ask for.

In summer you can also camp on the island, bit expensive though at £1.00 per tent

Regards Gary

Right Piel Island is N54',04.83" W03'10.46"

The distance from Douglas is 48.2 NM including the dig leg channel lead in.

Hi graham
cant make it sunday I had arranged a radio course for the saturday so that I could tag along but a couple of lads needed to do sunday so I've swopped it for them.
Anyway this time it can be totally down to Gary instead of both of us when he tells you its not rough!
Knott End launching is a bit up in the air at the moment. At this time of year no-one pays anyway but it looks increasingly like the ferry wont run next year in which case the launch will doubtless be free, but the slip will be muddy and they wont dredge the sides.
Its not always rough here honest!

the piccie was 29th dec Blowing a hoolie day before and day after but that day was excellent. Went to launch at yacht club but slip was a skating rink cos dinghies had been racing day before and their wash off water had frozen on the slip itself. Had to do quick detour to Stanah which was usable as no-one else had been on it to drop water to freeze. It wont be freezing this weekend but if you do come over on an icy day just walk the slip first to see what the surface is like. Mate of mine got stuck on there on ice last year with a 2wd car. As soon as he tried to move back up slip it just slid down a bit nearer to that incoming tide. Had to send wife to bring man with L/rover to pull him up.

Hotel at top of slip but boat out on the road and whilst not a lot happens at knott end you only need one vandal. I can probably get your boat in the local garage or round the back at your own risk if it wont fit thru the doors and onto his MOT hoist-depends on the beam and how generous the owner is feeling!

well lifeboat man simon (atlantic 25)says he wears a bunny suit but will not be drawn on subject of silk underwear/socks. Lifeboat woman Nikki (47ft Tyne) says she wears big white wooly socks and its none of your business about anything silk that she might be involved with.
Personally I think its a myth put about when a certain Mrs lifeboatman found them in his car.
